"Skip Conversion of Same File type" does not appear to work.
I want to create a wma of each of my mp3 files.  I have some of the wma already.  So I updated the library to show both mp3 and wma, then selected some that have only mp3 and some that have both wma and mp3.  I have checked the box "Skip conversion of same file type" and am storing the new wma in another directory and am NOT updating the database.  This should allow me to create wma files of only those with mp3 only, it should not update my database and it should store the new wma of only the mp3 in a separate directory.  It does all of this but it also creates a wma when a wma already exists in the database with the same name as the one being created.
Here is what 'Help" says:
Move to Location
Specifies a location to put the output files of the converter. If no directory is specified, it will place the files in the same folder as the source files.

You can also create Artist/Album subdirectories in the chosen location.

Update database
Updates the database to reflect the new format of the converted files. For example, if you convert a batch of WAV files to MP3, the database will be updated to show the MP3 files in place of the old WAV files.

If un-checked, no changes are made to the database, and you will have to import the new files if you want them in your library.

Send original files to the Recycle Bin
This erases the original source files after a successful conversion (again, if you convert a batch of WAV files to MP3, it'll recycle the WAV files).

Skip duplicates
When checked, the program will not convert a file if that file already exists in your database. For example, if you are converting Blowin’ in the Wind.wav to Blowin’ in the Wind.mp3, but the latter already exists, the program will not convert this file if Skip Duplicates is selected.

When unchecked, if the target file already exists, the program renames the new file by appending a copy number after it, for example Blowin’ in the Wind(1).mp3

In reality "skip duplicates" actually says "skip conversions of the same type"

after saving a view scheme for all locations, MC will not remember adjustments to sorting, even when saving the sorting adjustments for a given view scheme.
all adjustments were made via "customize current view"

View schemes do not remember to display library-specific custom fields when switching between libraries that have different custom fields.

I couldn't reproduce.  Can you give a step-by-step?

This is to be expected since view settings are user specific instead of library specific.

I set up a test library, and i couldnt get it to reproduce either.
Is there an email address I could send the library I'm experiencing the problems with?

Every now and then this bug returns:
- latest change(s) aren't backed up.

E.g.: changing the lyrics and rating and removing the song from a playlist. Closing MC and at the restart the rating is changed indeed, but not the lyrics and the song is still in the playlist.

For the last several releases - not sure how many since I did not realise the connection with MC immediately - there has been a 'funny' with the install setup.....

During the initial setup where MC prepares things for the Install Wizard I have a problem on my second screen.

While the first screen show the setup running, the second screen shivers and shakes.  This lasts for almost exectly the whole of the setup's run, and appeas to do no harm elsewhere - but it does not look good for the product!

All the best

From my experience this happens when MC crashes for one reason or another. Maybe your version of MC crashes when you close it.

Sorry, but that's not the case.
I always shut down MC properly. Even better: MC never crashes on my p.c.

And again: it was a bug some 15 builds ago which was repaired a bit later and now has returned.
Last year the backing up problem was even bigger: 3 or 4 changes weren't backed up.

So: it certainly is a bug.

TXGary,

I'm not sure if you are having the same exact problem I had, but here you go, just in case.

  Thanks!

Now we just need a mjextman /iPodSync and panes in handheld view. Keep up the good work.

Just been trying to burn some CDs from the Library with 143.

3 failures (burning stopped at 17%, 85% and 96% - MC hangs)
3 successes
5 errors ("can't start the write" in main window "Failed to send cue sheet to CD" in AW)
2 "faulty" burns both with inaccurate reading of track times - gaps during tracks rather than at the end of them.

Haven't had trouble like this for about 6 weeks now! Very disappointed!

sirshambling,

Do you have any advanced settings turned on for burning (e.g., DSP, EQ). Please post your System Info.

Thanks,

MC still does not send a file list to label maker unless the user first clicks on "Show List" first in MC then click on "create disk labels".

is this the way it is intended to work?

i would think when you click on "create disk labels" mc would auto "Show List" then goto the label maker.

this way at least the label maker gets the info.

Hello Nikolay,

No advanced settings turned on at all - vanilla straight burning from MP3 128CBR files. I use CD Text and edit it via "options" before burning. I also use "show list" but never "create disc labels".

My system info is

TXGary,

Sorry the 'Help' has gotten behind the changes to MC. 'Skip Duplicates' has been replaced by 'Skip Conversion of Same File type' which functions somewhat differently. When 'Skip Conversion of Same File type' is selected, if you have selected to convert files which are the same file type as what you have selected for the conversion encoder, the files will be skipped regardless of bitrate.

In your example, if you select all files to convert (both mp3 and wma) and you have the encoder set to wma and 'Skip Conversion...' checked, only mp3 should convert.

I just tested (with 10.0.143) an attempt to convert wma files when WMA is the selected encoder and the files were skipped as expected.

Just had 2 more problems - 1 failed at 95% the other with the "cue shet" error message.

One thing I have noticed is the the CD Text box is always blank on these failures - some fail when the box is populated with "various" and "various" when I click to it. It should say "various" and "various" I think as all these CDs are mixed up ones.

Not doing any more for the moment!

That makes perfect sense, but where do you tell it to bypass dups?
That is to say I have mp3 and wma and also have lots with mp3 only.  I want to convert the mp3 that has NO wma, but I get all mp3 and have the option to skip the wma.  I do not want to redo the mp3 that already has a wma.  Hope I make sense.  I see no place to check to skip dups....

I found the problem with the "cue sheet" error message. I'm not sure if the fix could also help with the other problem of failing partially through the burn. Please try the next build.

When scanning cover images, the scanner's TWAIN software is displayed using the current skin for MC.  This can look very odd indeed.

This was fixed a while back but I've just noticed it's returned.

TxGary,

There is not a built in way to do this anymore. You could try creating a smartlist with a rule something like this....

~nodup=[Name],[Artist],[Album],[Genre] [File Type]=[mp3]

In other words, create a smartlist with no duplicates (to rule out files which already are converted based on name, artist, album, genre, etc.) with an additional rule to filter only mp3 files. I hope this gets you close.
