If you're bored and patient...
« on: October 31, 2003, 06:27:54 pm »

We spent the week doing some internal replumbing of Media Center.  That's basically a way of saying we broke stuff without adding anything good.  For whatever it's worth, it should payoff over the long haul.

Anyway, there's a half-working demo with the replumbing in it.  If you feel like helping, give it a spin and let us know what works and what doesn't.  At it's best, it'll work like build 291.  Expect problems.

Things to test: (because they were retooled)

  • Drag-n-drop (files to tree items / tree items to tree items)
  • Tree rename
  • Tree delete
  • Tree right-click
  • Tree item text, tooltips, icons
  • Tree update (F5)
  • Tree building (what items, where they are, etc.)
  • View saving (sticky views, etc.)

Things we know aren't working:

  • Tree path based commandline arguments
  • Handheld subfolders (for non removable drive type handhelds)

Thanks for any help.

Back to handing out candy for me...

I remember that subject heading (minus ..and patient) from a while back.  I think it was when you made us wait 8 days for a new build.  From memory it was certainly worth the wait.  Hope this is too... Downloading now....Should have it by Monday Morning.

A couple of tree related things I have noticed:  There are no sub folders for the media library.  I tried restoring my back up from this afternoon (from 291) and no change.

I created a smartlist with 292 (all albums, track #1, random sort).  When I double click, MC plays the entire library.  If I right click and select play from the tree, the smart list plays as it should.

Smartlists that I created using other builds behave normally.

Drag-and-drop appears to be working.

*edit*  Save this view for this location and sub locations doesn't appear to work.  Views for individual locations can be saved.

Does this mean I am a boring person?  I know I am not all that patient.  ;)

I also have the missing sub-views on the Media Library.

The plugin-tree does not get populated in this version. Seems that the plugins are there but you can't see them.

I'm curious what you mean by this !! or is it just refactoring.

Matt overhauled the way the tree is built and handled internally, so it should be a lot easier for us to make changes to it.  Should be bug free in a couple of builds.

Just noticed another tree related problem:  I cannot import folders from the tree.  When I try to Media Center fails to find any files to import.

Importing files in the main window does work.
