Winamp DSP plugins that work in MC
« on: January 04, 2004, 01:08:06 pm »

Hi,
I was playing around with some of the WinAmp DSP Plugins and found that quite a number work with MC.
Some require install into the 'C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugin' folder while others can be diverted directly into MC's Plugin folder.

((Others may work but would not install unless they actually detected WinAmp on your system (and it is not on mine so I gave up at that point). Some of these others MAY work with MC once installed into WinAmp and then possible copied into MC's Plugin folder or loaded into MC's Plugin Manager from their WinAmp folder??.))

Once installed in the plugin folder, simply open MC's Plugin Manager and click 'Add Plugin', pointing MC to the plugin's DLL file.

Anyway,
I thought I'd list the DSP plugins from Winamp which I have found appear to work in MC. I have installed them, been able to access and use them, but did not take alot of time to test their quality or effectiveness.
You may prefer one or another (or none), but it is nice to know that some do work as intended when used with MC.

I have included a description from the download site, and tried to note whether they were freeware, trials, demo, etc.

These are standard DSP Plugins, not DirectX plugins.

They can be found here -->>  http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?ctype=P&category=5

Enjoy!  ;)

OSS3D R7 - FREE TRIAL - this plugin contains the latest EQ10, multiple algorithms for 3D stereo expansion, and more.

SoftAmp VirtualSound - 3D Sound with 4 Virtual Speakers. SoftAmp VirtualSound produces a three dimensional sound with four independent virtual speakers.

CompWide - Small size, large sound. Use this DSP to get rid of tracks in different volumes and to enhance the sound of most of your audio files. Includes treble shifter and stereo wider.

Sound Solution - A complete ZERO COST solution for small radios or CD mastering. Complete with preemphasis generator and instructions manual.

TOMASS LIMITER V1 -  A fat bass "clean" limiter and stereo expander. Great for disco and pop music.

ANDs Dolby Sorround - FULL FREEware - Surround dsp plugin.

DeCiSoft Equalizer - This is a constant-q equalizer with a maximum gain of +/- 18 dB and up to 32 bands. Right mouse button sets all slider to neutral (0 dB). The plugin saves the last position of the sliders, so there is no need to enter your favorite setting everytime you start it.

Enhance MP3 For Winamp - Now you can breathe new life into the stale compressed sound of MP3 with this cool self-adjusting enhancer that's loaded with tons of presets. Reshape and customize your audio files so they sound good to you.

Wide & Dynamix - Stereo Enhancement: to improve the stereo image by pushing the apparent sound source beyond the speakers. -- Life: to recreate the actual sound propagation in a room for a more natural music. -- Dynamic Controller: to keep an almost constant volume; it's a very convenient feature when your play list contains very different kinds of music styles with different audio volume (it works fine with live events and classical music)

WOW Thing - FREE TRIAL - The WOW Thing is an audio enhancement processor based on patented technology. WOW from SRS Labs is the next generation of 3D audio technology. WOW provides the ultimate listening experience from any two speakers regardless of their size, by creating an image that extends above and beyond the speakers themselves. Turn on WOW and your speakers instantly become dramatically taller and wider. The WOW Thing also includes TruBass, another technology from SRS Labs, Inc. Based on psychoaccoustics, TruBass was designed to accurately reproduce the bass tones from a stereo recording and create the perception of deep and rich bass tones even if the speakers themselves can not physically reproduce them.

WaveSurround V3 - DEMO - WaveSurround gives you an exciting new way to listen to stereo recordings. Standard stereo makes the sound come from between the two speakers in front of you. Listening to music through WaveSurround makes the music surround you WaveSurround V3 has several new features including a studio quality reverb with five preset room models that emulate a chamber, room, club, hall, and stadium.

Speakers Simulator - Makes headphone sound more comfortable, eliminates headache due to natural soundfield simulation. Requires big processor power. About 10% from Celeron 500. MMX highly recommended.

Spatializer StreamFX 2 for Winamp - 30-DAY FREE TRIAL - Spatializer 3D-Stereo creates an astonishing and enveloping sound field from any pair of loudspeakers. Spatializer Natural Headphone provides a virtual surround sound effect from stereo source material played through headphones. Spatializer Vi.B.E. dramatically improves the perceived bass performance from inexpensive speakers and headphones. Spatializer PCE (Phase Corrected Equalization): high frequencies are clearer, crisp and more brilliant while low frequencies are more dramatic, tighter and have more impact.
**A 'stand-alone' (player independent' version of the Spatializer is available from http://www.spatializer.com , also a 30-Day trial.

Happy 'hunting'   ;D

There's a plug-in for "4Front Headphones" that's very similar to the "Lake" plug-in. The plug-in is for winamp/mmjb but works in MC too. Do a search in the forum - I think it was a post by LisaRCT or Straymond.

See me after class Zev    ;D

I am adding it to the original post above . . . . .
but if you need instructions please try to search out the original thread on it as there was a bit of install discussion and directions. . . . . it may save a bunch of time and energy  ;)

Why, you are quite welcome    :)

I just got started and kept going until I had tried all the ones I thought may be interesting.
I figured that as long as I had done all that may as well post the info.
Lord knows I've picked up more than my share from the works of others here.

Drowbe, I'm using v10.0.27 presently, but have not tried any vis plug-ins. I only use audio plug-ins i.e. DSP Stacker, Enhancer, Compressor&Wider 1.1 & DirectX.  Never did like using visualizations in MJ or MC.

WinAmp has a very good DSP pluging for people riping they LPs.

You can ad as much scrachs , background noise ect  as you want.

Like it ,if you rip LPs in poor condition, instead of cleaning the files , just set all your files to sound like your old LPs....
You will not notice the riped LPs.

This looks like a very great Tip Of The Day......

Hey Zev,
is that anything like turning the radio louder when the car starts making strange sounds?
It always gets rid of the strange sounds  ;D

I use Izotope Ozone WA2 plugin, I really like this plugin, as it it is a subset of their mastering plugin, and contains valve emulation algorithms, I rate it higher than DFX.

I was really impressed with Lakes Dolby Heaphone plugin, and would like to see it available for MC, especially I would like to make rips of CDs with this plugin, so that I could download the MP3s to my Zen with the DH settings it makes.  Too bad it only works with music match now.

Bluey, for headphones try:

4Front Headphones, SRS WOW thing, or Spatializer StreamFX 2 for Winamp.
All do some form of cross-feed type enhancement for headphones and may suit your needs at lease temporarily.  Unless Lake has a Winamp plugin, which may work in MC.

Izotope Vinyl does this, and it works very well with the J River DirectX Host plugin.
