how do I assign an image file to a MP3 file permanently?
« on: August 24, 2004, 04:44:07 pm »

I use my MC connected to 3 LCD monitors and do therefore prefer to use the actual album art as "image file" in MC as this allows me to display the album cover stratched over the full screen.

However, when I assign my image file to an album or song and I restart MC later the settings seem to get lost and every time I have to re-assign the same images file to that album.

Also I save the image file to be displyed as full screen. When I restart MC it displays that same image file as "album art" and not how I assigned it as "image file" and is therefore not stratched over the full screen. So each time I have to manually re-assign my jpeg and specify it as an "image file" and not as an album art file.

Does anyone know if I can assign my image files to my albums or songs permanently so that whenever I start MC it will keep these settings, display my assigned image indeed as an "image file" and in full screen mode and not as an album art file?

Please help....

I don't think this is exactly what you're asking for, but have you tried making a mixed playlist that contains music and images?  If you play it, the music will play and the images will be displayed in a slide show.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Not really what I am looking for as I want the album cover to be on the full screen for the duration of the song of that album.

It would even be so easily fixed by MC simply just stratching the "cover art" files over the  full screen in the same style as it does this for the ordinary images. This would sort out all my problems.

I store the album cover art as a jpg (renamed with the album or track title) in the album folder with the music files (mp3s in my case).

I then use Irfanview (freeware) http://www.irfanview.com to resize the image to 800 pixel height and preserve aspect ratio (this will give full screen in both 800x600 & 1024x768 resolutions). The program has a Batch File Converter, so you only have to set it up once to do multiple images.

Once that's done, you can use the "Cover Art>Add From File" function. Or if the album(tracks), hasn't been imported yet, import and the jpg will import with- and be assigned to the tracks/album.

One more note on Irfanview; it's a great little image viewing and editing app, you can crop, rotate, lighten/darken, adjust the color and many more functions. It's not PhotoShop, but for quick adjustment and prep of album art it's great (and Free!).

Thanks so much for your reply.

I have now downloaded the Irfanview and it is a great tool. However, I still have problems.

Firstly, when I add the resized cover art into the music / album folder, MC imports it and treats it as an image file and not as a cover art file.

You can see the thumbnail on the bottom left when I play a song of a specific album but when I move my mouse over this thumb it says its an "inside file". Additionally sometimes I see the correct jpeg file in the "Playing Now" window, sometimes its left blank, even though it shows the correct thumb on the bottom left (file properties). Sometimes MC even shows a jpeg on the bottom left and a totally different album cover for the same song in the "Playing now" window.

Also if I remove a cover art from the album folder off my HD, clear my MC library and then import that album again, it still imports it with the same image.

Sometimes MC even imports a different cover art (other then the jpeg I assigned) which it finds from insdie the music files and I have no idea how to set it up so that it will only import the jpeg that I added to the HD album folder.

How can I be sure that MC will import and treat the jpeg as cover art and not as an image file?? On some albums it works but then the resized jpeg looks quite blurred and it seems if I assign the jpeg as an image file it is better qulity but then I don;t really want it as an image file for the known reasons.

Another weired thing I noticed is that let's say there are 12 songs in an album, MC sometimes only assigns the jpeg that I added to the album folder to some songs as a thumb but not to others which are left blank. Can you help, please?

Regards,

Answer: Right click the file. Go to "Image" section. First disable the option "Store Cover Art Inside Files (if possible)" if enabled. Then right click again and go to "Image -> Add From File..." and assign the image file by selecting the correct path and filename. You can do this to several selected music files at once.

I link the cover art images always this way, manually. I also use other album images. I have explained that in this thread:

For single images (cover art assigned with the files), you can simply use the display plugin "Cover Art". It downscales images if needed, but unfortunately it doesn't have an option for upscaling images. That could be easily added, I think. (To the wish list...). Currently you have to have big enough images for full screen display.
