TV Tuner won't save scanned channels...
« on: October 03, 2003, 06:46:52 pm »

I upgraded to build 9.1.267 and noticed a new problem starting.

When I setup the TV Tuner and scan the channels I can see them being displayed, but when the scan is finished it doesn't add them to the list of channels.

I rolled back through previous builds until it started working again.  It saves the channels properly when running build 9.1.262 and stops working as of build 9.1.264

There are some minor changes in TV in the last few MC builds, but none in channels scanning. I did try it a few times this morning and could not reproduce the behavior you described. I will investigate. If you find any new information that is worth mentioning, please post it.

I am still having this problem as of build 9.1.271.

Also, I noticed that I can add the channels manually from TV Options and they work just fine.  Although, for 125 channels this is a little tedious.

The scanning process seems to take a little longer than normal after the 262 build.  Using build 262 it takes about a minute to scan all 125 possible channels.  Any build later than 262 takes up to 5 minutes before it is done scanning.

Also, I think that 262 was the last build before the "Reset Device" button was added to the TV Tuner options.

Yes, it was an attempt for me to grab more channels in some cases when there is difficulty getting the channels. I will change to reduce the length of time.

I am aware of that. It should not affect how scanning is done.

To isolate the problem, can you try rolling back TV component only, instead of rolling back MC? To do it, first save the TV file MJTVControl.DLL from MC build 262, the file version of MJTVControl.DLL in 262 is 3.2.205.0, and then install MC build 271 (the latest), which will have 3.2.215.0 for MJTVControl.DLL. After that replace the MJTVControl.DLL with the old one.

If you have trouble saving the old TV component file, let me know, and I can email you various versions.

I rolled back the TV component only as you requested and it is working fine again.  There is definately an issue with the newer DLL.

How can I get a copy of the files mentioned above?  Also, is there a way to back up the channel names once you've updated them.  After going through and renaming "Channel 2" to "2 CBS" three times, I figure there has to be a way to export/import the list...or a file to back up, etc.

Cheerios,  --Thomas

To get an old DLL, one way is to roll back MC first, save MJTVControl.dll to a safe location. Then you can copy it to the TV subfolder after installing the latest MC.

An alternative is to send me a private message with your email address. I will email a copy to you.

To backup your customized channel list, you can backup this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Properties\TV Channels

I am glad someone else is having this issue.  At least I know now that it is not something specific to my system and it will get a little more priority in support.

There is a registry key that you can export that contains all the channel configuration you enter.  If memory serves it is located at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Jukebox\Properties\TV Channels.  Just export that key and keep it somewhere safe.  Then, if you lose the channel settings you can always re-import it.

As far as the DLL file, you have to install version 9.1.262, it contains a file called MJTVControl.DLL that is at version 3.2.205.0.  Save that file to someplace safe, and then re-install 9.1.274.  Then overwrite the newer MJTVControl.DLL file with the one you saved from the previous install.  Test out the channel scanning again and it should work fine with the older DLL file.

You should send a message to Yaobing, referring to this post, to let him know that you are having the same issue.  I spoke with him last week, and he was looking into the issue but I haven't heard back from him yet.

Sorry for not being able to devote more time on this. I still have not figured out what the problem is and I am preoccupied with other things.

OK...I appreciate the update.  Let me know if/when you are able to spend some more time with it.

To update you, I setup a brand new computer with a brand new install of Media Center and the same behavior occured with any build after 9.1.262 so at least we know it is not a fluke with my one system.

Sorry it took so long. This problem is now fixed. Look for MJTVControl.DLL version 3.3.225.0 in one of the new builds of MC in the near future.
