Title: Please help us identify iPods

The latest updaters/firmwares/iTunes have made it difficult to definitively identify iPod models. But we can map to a iPod model number given the last three digits of the serial number. So, if you own one or many iPods (or know someone that does) we could really use your help building a serial number to model number mapping.

If you can help us with this, please post the last three digits of the serial number and the entire model number located on your iPod under Settings > About.

My 30 GB white ipod video is being recognized by MC (both 12 and 13) as an ipod nano. Last 3 of serial number is SZT, model A1136

Your list in this post shows SZT as being a white 4GB ipod nano (which is what MC thinks my ipod video is). Perhaps someone sent in the wrong info. Is there any way (short of an MC revision) to get MC to correctly recognize my ipod model?

Is it possible it's just the image that's wrong?  That model number appears to be correctly coded as a 30 GB video using Media Center 13.

I have a new ipod shuffle 4Gb (the one that speaks!)

this device is not recognised by itunes 8 or MC13 - so useless to me at present. Can I safely upgrade to itunes 8.1.1 so that I can load music onto it (I have MC 13.0.132)?

I hate itunes - i love MC - keep it going!

I'm working on it in MC14. To everyone else posting, that third number as in:
ipod shuffle type: 4H913BKF4NZ,",1452,4866 is not running.
in this example 4866 is important too. It's the usb device ID. If you get this info please post it as well.

I've got a new iPod Shuffle 3rd generation (named by Apple) or 4th generation (named by gtkpod).

Strangely enough, previous posts and other sources say that the model number A1271 belongs to the silver 4GB model, but mine has only 2GB.

I didn't get it to work with neither GTKpod nor GNUpod. It copies music to the iPod, but when I plug in the ear phones, a male voice says "Please use iTunes to sync music to this iPod.".

I tried iTunes on WinXP once, but it didn't find the music files I've already copied on the iPod with GTKpod but simply removed all of them. It added two files (Beethoven's 9th, some Blues stuff) which worked perfectly. After rebooting to Debian Linux again, neither GTKpod nor GNUpod recognized the database of iTunes.
