Congratulations Jim on another milestone. And while I'm at it, I want to say I have been using ver 9 for the past two weeks and am constantly amazed at what a marvelous piece of software this is. I thought ver 8 was the best program I had on my computer - out of nearly 200 programs - but each day I find some new tool that makes ver 9 much better. It has also been very stable.

Through the influence of Interact I joined eMusic a week ago and have been happy with the results.

So, I wish you many more years in good health.

Thanks, everyone.  That's a sweet thing to do, Matt.  Baking instead of programming?

Is it a virtual cake?  I know Gateley can't draw to save his life.

It looks great.  Thanks.  ::)

In my 40's, I felt the same way.  After 50, you just feel like, "oh, there goes another hubcap..." and you go on down the road.  I'm looking forward to being forgetful.  There are a lot of things I'd rather not remember.

A couple of nights ago, I talked by phone with an old friend.  He had been reading some books on philosophy and on religion and he mentioned a book that was published in the 50's or 60's.  I lived in Oakland in the late '60's and I remember friends talking about the author.  The book my friend mentioned was:

Alan Watts -- The Wisdom of Insecurity

As my friend described it, the central idea is that the paths we take that lead to security are less interesting than those that lead to insecurity.

I can vouch for this.  The most forceful experience I've ever had was a crossing from Key West to Havana in a sailboat on a very stormy night a few years ago.  It scared the sawdust stuffings out of me, but it was an incredible experience.  I wouldn't trade the memory for the island of Manhattan.

So tonight, I ordered the book from Amazon.  I can do that because it's my birthday.

Must be nice knowing you're getting closer to the day when you can just sit in that rocker on the porch, smoking a big ol' stogie, and have someone pat you an the shoulder and say,' What a nice day, huh?'

'Mmmhmm'.

It would be nice if they turned the rocker once in a while for new view as well.  ;D

Happy Birthday. And many more to boot.  ;)

OK, I'm busted on that one, but you think Matt can bake? The lunchtime conversation today was Matt defending his point of view that pouring a bowl of cereal plus milk was cooking!

I hope your day was better than mine.

I can say, with complete honesty, that Jim is somewhere between 100,000 and 1,000,000 years old.

Jim had a birthday???

A motorcycle on the cake???  Where's the 'music' in that???  Unless it's a Harly!

Now that I'm older....here's what I've discovered:

01. I started out with nothing....I still have most of it.
02. When did my wild oats turn to prunes and All Bran?
03. I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart.
04. Funny, I don't remember being absent minded.
05. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
06. If all is not lost, where is it?
07. The first rule of holes: If you are in one, stop digging.
08. It was all so different before everything changed.
09. Some days you're the dog, some days you're the hydrant.
10. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
11. A day without sunshine is like a day in Seattle.
12. I wish the buck stopped here. I could use a few.
13. It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end.
14. It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere.
15. The only time the world beats a path to your door is if you're in the bathroom.
16. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my knees.
17. When you're finally holding all the cards, why does everyone else decide to play chess?
18. Health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
19. It's not hard to meet expenses... they're everywhere.
20.The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth

King,

Regarding 1, 2, 3

1) Most I could ever get is a little paunch.

2) Moderately near sighted now (uncorrected)...can see clearly as close as 6" away from eyes.

3) There's always Viagra...but I'm worried just WHAT difference in appearance it does make. Can't figure it out from the commercial (guy walking through office)...maybe it has something to do with his pants ?

Thanks guys
