Can I print out list of genres?
« on: April 04, 2004, 05:35:03 am »

Is it possible to make a printout of my (rather long) list of genres?

First customize your view to show "Genre" column, if it's not visible.

Then make a search:  -[Genre]=[] ~nodup=[Genre]

That results only one instance of each genre. Click the "Genre" column heading to sort the genres in alphabetical order.

Send that selection to a new playlist. (name it e.g. "My Genres")

Go to that playlist and customize your view to show only "Genre" column. Hide the other columns.

Then you can print a file list or export your "My Genres" playlist to ASCII delimited format and edit the resulting file with your favourite word processor or spreadsheet program.

I can't try it here, I don't have MC 9.1 installed anymore. Maybe someone else can tell? You can also check the MC Help.

Your question in the other thread was:

i'd like to let a friend know about all the albums i have. is there a way to export just the artists and albums to a html-file?

The principle is the same as with the Genres above, new search is e.g.:

-[Album]=[] -[Artist]=[] ~nodup=[Album]

That filters out files with no Artist or no Album and results only one instance of each Album.

Works with MC 10, at least.

thank you.

no, it definetly does not work with 9.1 - i tried various variations of the search string.

meanwhile i installed MC10, after all its just 10 bucks to upgrade. here the search string works wonderfully, i even reduced it just to ~nodup=[Album] since all my songs are in albums.

thanks again.
