Info (Rate/Duration) Mismatch
« on: November 11, 2006, 06:42:58 am »

Recently I notice that the rate and duration info for some selections is wrong in the file listing. All is correct in the playing now display. Updating library from tags does not work for a file when this happens.
Files are not corrupt.
Any ideas?

Here's an example:

Looks like the decoder plugin provides correct info during playback, but library contains miscalculated info.

Unfortunately, I have no answer -- only some questions to ask:

Does this happen only with Wavpack files or also with MP3, APE etc?
Did the displayed info change at some stage or was it wrong already after the initial import?
Is Otto involved in this?

I have seen this before on mp3 files, sometimes a update library from tags will correct it.

Happens with any audio type that I have.
The ones I have noticed are already imported.
I was able to recode one, if I left the same bitrate I got the same results, even if it were in a diferent directory. If I change the bitrate, the same selection is fine.

Again, the files are not corrupt, other tools and players are fine (MD5 hash and foobar). And, the player has correct info for any of the files. Just the file list that is incorrect.

As far as I can tell, Otto's hands are clean.

Well, after a brief rethink, I went back to a 'base' image of my system. Nothing but a fully patched XP. I installed MC, added the usual plugins, set Otto on his way and waited.
All files that have the erroneous display are Wavpack files.
A reencode to a different bitrate fixes things, and Otto notices the change almost instantly.
Why those particular selections are odd at the same bitrate as all other Wavpack files? I have no idea. Encoding to the same bitrate after 'correcting' by using a different bitrate results in the bad displayed info again. So, it is something specific to those files, bitrate, and Wavpack.
I'll post this topic in the Wavpack plugin thread.
