Sorting problems when burning playlists to disc
« on: November 15, 2007, 01:16:19 am »

I drag my playlist into the relevant box.

The sorting order appears fine (in album then track number). The seq column indicates the order I have set with tracks listed from 1-10 etc etc.

However when the burn is complete the output cd has rearranged my order into a strict alpha order irrespective of the album and relevant track number.

This is really bugging me. I want to burn complete cds in the order the originals were presented, not in alpha - no not in alpha order.

Any you people got any ideas.

Put the Track Number before the Album,i.e.: Track Number, Album, etc...
That should do it  ;D

Thanks Tinear

But alas, sob ?

I dragged the "track number" column to the first position, ie before the "track name" column and the burnt disc still puts all mps in alpha order rather than "album/track number " order.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong - surely MC12 can burn a playlist to a cd and retain the order it was built in.

Any other ideas?

I think he is speaking about data CD burning. This isn't the first and probably not the last time when someone asks the same thing.

Here's my recent answer:

As JohnT tried to explain, the file system used for data CDs is different from audio CDs. Data CDs are like hard drives. The files don't have any particular order. The displayed order is always up to the used browser (i.e. the used SW program or HW player). Normally all HW players use alphabetical order.
That's why MC has an option for prefixing the list order in the filename:

I'll give this a go and report back tomorrow.

Much appreciated.

Gappie, I selected Data CD. Ta

Alex, is this one of those topics which appear from time to time? I appreciated you repeating the answer for me and will get back to you.

Thanx Alex B - it worked a treat.

Without forums like this, sometimes I would be up the creek!  ;)

And if you're burning in "Audio CD" mode, the same problem occurs.  But here's a solution:

1) Setup a "dummy" burn from a playlist that you have.
2) Drag that playlist into "Burn" in the Action Window
3) Now click the drop-down menu and select "Data CD/DVD"
4) Click the "Next" button
5) Now proceed to do what Alex. B. has instructed above
6) After following Alex's instructions, clear the Burn list (you can select all the songs in "Burn" list and hit delete)
7) Now click on the Action Window
8) Now drag your desired songs to the Burn icon in the Action Window
9) Select "Audio CD" from the drop-down menu
10) Burn baby burn......

Sorry I line-itemed my directions.  Hope that doesn't bother anyone.

Thanks,
