Playing MP4 Files
« on: December 31, 2007, 10:42:54 am »

I am using MP4 files for karaoke.  This allows me to outsource
my video to an external monitor.  Both sound and video seem
to be working fine.  However, I wish to send the audio to an
external sound card (MP3 sound blaster).  When I redirect the
sound, it insists on using the internal sound card.  No matter
how I set it, it keeps playing on the internal sound card.  I am using
the internal sound card for another source, so this is why
I am trying to get it to work through the sound blaster.

I am using a seperate zone (Zone 3) for karaoke.

How can I get this to work on an external sound card?

Thanks!

MC uses QuickTime or DirectShow for MP4 video and audio decoding.

Probably your configuration uses QuickTime, which doesn't allow MC to change to used sound device. You can configure MC to use DirectShow decoding. This makes possible to select the output device inside MC. You may need to install a few DirectShow filters.

The DirectShow Playback Guide has the most detail, and is a great way to learn about the full DirectShow support in MC... However, there is also this page that is more specific to MC's MP4 support: http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/MP4_and_M4A_File_Support

glynor,

this is a bit off-topic in this thread, but the MP4/M4A wiki page you linked says that ALAC is not possible through DS. This is not exactly true. An ALAC filter exists and MC12 can play ALAC through DS. Check my post here for details: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=42780.0

Most likely glynor said that because I kept saying it. Thanks for clarifying it.

That is exactly it.  I have no ALAC files, and in my brief looks I couldn't find any good DS filters.  Thanks from me as well!
