I was going through my music and any non-mp3 tracks seemed to have doubles. Why is this?

flacs, wavs and wma and others. Im away from my comp at the moment. I have a feeling it has something to do with the songs on my ipod.

Look for the Stacks as Cache section.

To sum up, if you had the handheld cache enabled it would have been converted to the new handheld cache stack.

There were also a couple of builds that enabled the handheld cache (stack version) by default.  So even if you didn't use the cache before you might be using it now.

If the files were in the handheld cache you could just delete them wholesale.

Make sure you turn the cache off if you don't want them.

Find a pair of files.  Hover over each with your mouse to get the tooltip.  See where they are stored.

Repeat until you know where they are.

Be careful.

First, make doubly sure that you are indeed working with stacks.
To do that, list your audio files using panes at the top and details at the bottom, not thumbnails.
Right click on a column header and hover over 'Columns'
From the list that appears, scroll down to find, and click on, "Stack Icon"
Click away from the menu to close it.

You should see a column with red and blue icons:


The icons are informative:
All blue means the stack is 'collapsed' (imagine a load of CDs all stacked up in a pile. You can only see the CD at the top)


Red in the middle is shown on 'expanded' stacks. (this would be one of the CDs from the middle of your pile)


Red on top is again shown on expanded stacks and informs you that this file is the "Stack Top" (this would be the CD you saw at the top of your pile)


You can click on any of these icons to expand or collapse a stack.
If you do have these icons on view, then go up to the top of the view where it says "Pane" and hover the mouse there.
A menu will show. Look for "Options"
Hover over that and choose "Expand Stacks" from the menu.

All the files that have the stack member () icon can be safely deleted, but as JimH says, be careful.

If you don't have any stack icons on view at all, then it's not a stacks issue and we should investigate further.

If it is stacks, type: -[stack top]=-1 into the search bar to filter out all the other, non-stacked files. That should make the list easier to work with.

Also, remember, after connecting your ipod next time, go to handheld options and be sure to disable the cache options.

If you have a handheld device attached you can check the options for it.  Tools->Options->Handheld.  Look under the conversion settings and check if the Conversion cache is enabled.  It should tell you where the files are located.  It also sounds like something you want to make sure is turned off.

You could also select all files, right click and expand the stacks and then add the "stack tag" column to the view and it should be obvious which ones were created by the hh conversion cache.

Sort by [stack tag] --> Select --> "Wholesale Deletion"
