This is a tool that imports MyMovies data into MC. Note that this can overwrite several fields in your MC database based on your selections so be careful if you have filled in these fields by hand and don't want to lose your work. It probably would be a good idea to backup your MC database before you run the importer.

Usage

The importer requires .NET v2.0 so make sure you have this installed.
Export your collection as XML from MyMovies (File | Export | XML File).
Make sure the path (and filename if applicable) of your movies in MC match the disc location in MyMovies otherwise a match won't be made and nothing will be imported.
Launch the tool, select your exported XML file, set other options, and run it.

Actions

Import: MyMovies data is imported and overwrites existing MC field.
Ignore: No data imported and MC field is untouched.
Clear: MC field is emptied/cleared.

v1.01, 02/11/09

Now tries an additional match by adding "VIDEO_TS" to the disc location.

v1.02, 03/18/09

"Running Time" can now be imported to Duration.
Blu-ray folder rips can be matched. To get these into MC, copy a small "VIDEO_TS.ifo" file from one of your DVD folders to the "BDMV" subdirectory for each Blu-ray folder. Import the Blu-ray folder into MC which will add it as a DVD. This import tool will then match it by appending "BDMV" to the disc location.

Where can I find MyMovies? The one I downloaded ffrom http://www.sofotex.com/downloads/d26063.html dosn't allow exporting to XML, so I assumed it is not the correct program.

You were talking about DVD Profiler and this tool a while back. Is it compatible at all?
I've used DVD Profiler for a long time, and I hardly think that MyMovies can compare to it...

My Movies 2 grab all my movies from the video_ts folders.
Does this importer works with video_ts folders? It just wouldn't import nothing at all in my case.

I haven't used it in a while but I do have all my movies in VIDEO_TS folders too. I think you just need to set the "disc location" in MyMovies for each movie to be the appropriate VIDEO_TS folder and the importer will find a match.

I'm having the same problem. My collection is mixed AVI and VIDEO_TS

Paths are something like

x:\x\<movie name>\xxxxx.avi for AVIs

x:\x\<movie name>\VIDEO_TS\<ripped files> for rips

I thought that this was the standard approach for handling ripped files in My Movies

Importer picks up the AVI titles no problem and fails for the VIDEO_TS titles....

Any ideas?

Look at the "Disc Location" field in MyMovies. Does this path match exactly that in the MC "Filename (path)" field?

From My Movies, the "Location (Side A)" field on "Assign Disks" is \\Server\movies\0\101 Dalmatians

This points to the folder containing either the AVI, or, in this case a VIDEO_TS sub-directory. I thought that this was the standard approach for My Movies

From MC the "Filename (path)" field contains \\Server\Movies\0\101 Dalmatians\VIDEO_TS\

The locations have to include the "VIDEO_TS" subdirectory for there to be a match (e.g. \\Server\movies\0\101 Dalmatians\VIDEO_TS).

This seemed to be the standard approach when I created the tool. Did you manually fill in the locations or did MyMovies automatically fill them in somehow?

Just had a quick play with My Movies, and it looks like you can point to either the VIDEO_TS directory or the next one up. But, I added 95% of my movies using the standard My Movies Import/Folder Content option. This scans through an entire disk (or selected folders) and sets up the database records itself (sorry if this is all familiar stuff). In this case, it has set up records at the <movie name> level, not the VIDEO_TS subdirectory. So it behaves consistently regardless of video format, there is a <movie name> directory which can contain either a VIDEO_TS sub-directory or an AVI file.

This has been useful for me as I have compressed my rips down to AVIs, I put the AVI in the <movie name> directory and delete the VIDEO_TS sub-directory. I don't then have to change the address in My Movies.

Also, My Movies auto-monitoring of folders does not work if the ripped VOBs etc are not in a VIDEO_TS sub directory. I'd accidentally put the files in the <movie name> directory, and auto-monitoring (and Import Folder Contents) did not find them. I added the VIDEO_TS sub-directory, moved he files, and the next time I ran My Movies, auto-monitoring picked them up, and created the database entry. And it points to the <movie name> directory, not the VIDEO_TS sub-directory.

So it looks like I could go in and change all of the Disc Location fields, but I'd have to remeber to to it for every title I add in the future. It would be easier if the tool followed the same approach as My Movies itself and reconciled the different ways in which the two applications like to reference the files.

I finally got MyMovies Data Importer to work with MC for 269 movies BUT it was a painful ride, MyMovies XML export doesn't list the location of the movies to match MC. The location in MyMovies list the movies as followed: <LocationSideA>E:\MOVIES\Break Up</LocationSideA> noticed it only pick-up the name of the movie/folder so I literally had to add "Video_TS" to every single movie location manually for the Data Importer to match MC.
So pretty much the Data Importer help but it's not automatic... I wonder if there's a way to make My Movies add "Video_TS" to the location??

Ok, I posted an updated version that tries to match by appending "VIDEO_TS" to the end of each disc location (if there is no initial match of just the location). I am not in a position to test if it works or not so let me know if there are problems.
