Analyse Audio corrupts audio files
« on: July 17, 2009, 09:18:48 am »

I discovered very nasty and critical issue: Analyse Audio CORRUPTS my audio files!!! After some experiments it seems that once the new feature "Play files from memory instead of disk" is enabled AND the Analyse Audio operation is performed then the audio files are PERMANENTLY CORRUPTED!!! By the corruption I mean I get hearable drops from time to time. Seems that only FLAC files are affected - did not happen with MP3 (yet).

Is this ONLY when 'Play from Memory" is on PLUS you Analyze?

Does a track need to be playing during Analysis for corruption to occur?

If I turn off "Play From Memory" is it then safe to analyze FLAC files?

From my experience:

Yes
No
Yes

But we need confirmation from Matt...

This problem only affects you if you have the new 'play from memory' option enabled.  Please disable it for now.

Tagging of some formats (hopefully only FLAC) might have problems with the memory reading enabled.  This is because tagging was also using a memory reader, which doesn't have full write support.

For now, disable memory reading.  A new build with a fix will be available within an hour.

Sorry for any trouble this caused.
