Syncing with sansa e280 crashes client
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:05:08 pm »

I've been trying to sync my Sansa E280 (Rockbox firmware installed) with MC 14.0.65, however, it seems to be crashing along the way.
Is does seem to sync sucessfully so long as I leave the AV dialog box displayed and do not close it.

I'm transcoding the file into ogg format during the sync, from mp3. I'm running MC on Windows XP SP3, with all the latest patches applied, ESET Security Suit 4.0, on a AMD X2 64 processor, 2 GB ram, and ATI 800XT GPU running latest ATI drivers available for the card.

Below is a log from when the error happened:

Build 67 fixed a problem with Library Server.  Are you running that?  It looks like it's crashing when it tries to get a file.  Search for crash in the log to read.

Ok,

Yes I did have the Library Server running .
I'll try again with the latest build as see if that helps.

I upgraded to the latest version and still no luck it crashed out with the error as before (See further down).
So one thing I tried was to switch ESET real time checking off and started the synch process off again. Left this overnight since it was syncing around 8GB of music, with transcoding. This morning when I got the the PC i noticed that only one of the conversion threads was running, the other had frozen! However, there were no AV errors. Cancelling and restarting the conversion process synched the file that the transcoding thread was stuck on and finished off the sync. I'll try syncing again, this time having only a single conversion thread running.

Try syncing a few files first.  Increase the number gradually if it works.

I tried the sync again last night but with only 1 conversion thread running. This time it took a lot longer but no AVs to report.
Will try again tonight with 2 conversion threads and see how that goes.
JimH, just wondering is there a way to turn on more detailed trace than what is enabled using the Loggin checkbox?

 :-\
I just tried the sync with the two convertion threads and bingo got an AV. I'm guess it may be something to do with my PC as it surely must work correctly for others out there.

 ?

I guess the novelty of this issue has worn away and nothing else is going to be done?

Remove Library Server from the tests.  Don't use it.  Sync local files.

If that doesn't work, remove any "security" related software.

This does not sound like an MC issue.  It's possible, just not likely.
