Install problem
« on: January 23, 2010, 08:34:00 am »

Cannot get it to function since latest download today. Use Windows 7 64 bit. Get message: "Media Center was installed for different operating system. Please reinstall".
I've tried that and also tried changing the program compatibility to all others mention in the pulldown to no avail. Please help.

Reboot and reinstall.

If that won't work, uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.

If you changed compatibility settings, change them back.  MC doesn't need them.

Something on your system is goofing with the OS version reported to software.

You can manually change the value here with regedit:
32-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JRiver\Media Core\Installations\Media Center 14
64-bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JRiver\Media Core\Installations\Media Center 14

OS version should be 0xa (10) for Windows 7.

I was just about to post the same problem when fortunately I found this thread.  I had to edit the registry, but sure enough that fixed it.

Any idea what's causing it?

What was the value set to before changing it?

It seems like Windows 7 is running the installer in compatibility on some systems but we don't know why.  We don't want that, and it's certainly not all Windows 7 installs.

<bump -- we'd like to know what the value in the registry was set to before changing it, and if there are any clues as to why the installer might be running in compatibility mode on these systems>

I have this problem too... registry setting is correct.

I ran a few tests...

1) tried to get EventGhost to start it but problems there too. Starting MC with EG gives me the error
2) sometimes when xpTunes loads I get the error.

I have verified that if I run, from command line or start menu, mc14.exe /Power it start perfectly fine, no error - tried it 10 times.

any ideas?
