Tag editing with date fields
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:14:29 am »

I have several date fields which I enter after ripping, such as 'date recorded', 'date released', etc.  The new drop-down/select is not only a pain when vertically entering this data but, in addition, for the life of me, I can't see any reason why someone would want/need it!  The top guesses can't possibly be right and who would use 'select more' when it's just so much easier to type it and move on.

Is there any way you could give us the option of selectively turning-off the feature for some fields?

Please update to build 136 from the top of this board, as your comments make it sound like you're using an older version.

Thanks.

That's what I'm using, Matt.

I see the same behaviour, not just in the date field, but artist and album fields too.

Newer builds do not show popup suggestions for numeric or date fields.

But since the "Date" data type is not an option for user created fields, you probably have used "String" as the data type for your custom 'Date Recorded' and 'Date Released' fields.  If we allowed selecting 'Date' for those fields, then it would not show popup suggestions.  Would that help?

Yes, absolutely, thanks.  And, of course, you're right about the field type selected for my custom fields - "string".

Just one question: would I be able to simply select the new field type as "date" and have my existing data converted automatically?  Currently, I've used the format mm/dd/yyyy for those "dates".  Or would some other conversion be necessary?

Thanks again.

Bump.

I'm still having major headaches with this: entering dates in a custom date field in a vertical fashion.

After keying-in the date, is there ANY keystroke(s) I can use to go to the next record VERTICALLY without the interference of the pop-up selection list?

Anyone??

Matt?  Are you still considering allowing a "date" type to be selected for user-defined fields?

There should be a way to easily move through fields vertically without exiting edit mode...

Bump again.

Could someone from J River please respond and address this issue?  Thanks.

It's on the list, but it could be a while.

Thanks.
