jriver remote control - changing commands
« on: October 29, 2010, 03:20:25 am »

so im trying to get the remote control to work
it installed nicely on xp. all the commands work (as far as i tested them), so the remote works with mc?. but since i dont use tv i want to change some of the commands.
in the commands dialogue with only mce as a device, the triggercodes are recorded when i click learn, but the commands i assign to it wont be used.
for instance the 'my tv' button still brings me to tv things, not to playing now i assigned to it.

now i have an other option. not use the mce device, but use hid instead. this works much better, but with some strangness still. for instance:
i want to use the record button for something else than recording tv. so i assign something to it (stop playback in all zone's) and that works, but it still jumps to Theater View guide, so some television stuff. since this is with the mce disabled it surprises me. i turned on the log (with the stop all unattached) and it says this:
Code: [Select]

so my questions about this:
how can i get the mce part to work?
if not, im happy with the hid stuff, but:
how can i let mc do what i ask in the commands without it adding other commands?

thanks

so that is where the 'suppress system handling during this command' is for.  :)
works for the record button using hid.
yesterday it crashed when using it on mytv and i had some under the green button..

but that does not work for volume up and down. although is send the mcc command for vol up and i suppress system handling it still moves the volume of windows, which is an other sound card even...

Maybe you've said, but did you disable Windows Media Center?  It's an option in Theater View.

Their is a folder called ehome, I think, somewhere in the Windows directory that I renamed.  I think that is another way to disable WMC.

thanks jim, but i have wmc disabled. and that is not the problem. the problem is:
the remote works out of the box with mc.
when i try to change a command with the device set to mce, as in the manual, the command screen sees the triggers from the remote, but it wont use the command i put up for it, instead it continues to use the standard command. so.. my tv keeps going to my tv instead of playing now.

by the fact that you changed the title of this thread, jim, i understand that changing the commands is not part of getting the remote working?
it was a question for help of other users, it is not some manual.
setting it up as an mce remote does not work, so why?
i might be doing something wrong.

Hi gappie. To avoid MC handling the WMC commands (by default), try setting the Media Key Mode option to "App Commands": Options > General > Advanced > Media Key Mode.

Hi gappie. Some buttons on the remote are special 'MCE' type that have pre-defined meanings like "My TV".  However, I've massaged the code to allow those to be re-assigned as well as the other buttons, so try the next build which should allow you to re-assign "My TV" to do something else.

thanks you raym, it does not help for this case, but i never would have looked there for something that also does influence the remote behaviour. as far as i can see, for instance disabeling the medie key mode has the same impact as using 'suppress system handling.... ', or at least more or less. i need to play with it some more...
great tip

thank you john. thanks very much. its a bit tough for someone who kicked his television out of the window 20 years ago to have a remote where 5 buttons bring him back to television. im looking forward to the next build and ill let you know.
