Possible to add new filetypes?
« on: December 14, 2010, 06:39:13 pm »

Is it possible to add new filetypes to the auto import list?
ie. bdmv, cbr, cbz, etc

Is it possible to add new file types to the list under Options/File Types?
ie. bdmv, cbr, cbz, etc

Not a big deal if its not possible.
Im just asking because i thought i read that it was possible a long time ago.
It involved editing a file somewhere in the j river directory.

yes you can, i quote gappie on how

one thing you could do:
in your mc installation you fin a folder called default resources, in this folder you find a file called FileAssociations.
now start with making a new folder beside the default recource folder called 'Custom Resources'  ;) and copy the FileAssociations file into that folder. this is important because the custom resource folder is not overwritten with a new instal, and mc first looks if the custom recource folder excists.
now open the fileassociation file with notepad. at the top you find something that starts with <data> you find office docs there and you can add file types. or even categories.
after saving the changes, close mc for the types to show in the options, go to the options to make shure they are there and enabled.

now i have a question: i added a datatype called biab files. one thing i could not find is how to use a wildcard. biab files use mg1, mg2, mgu etc, so i tried mg* and mg?, both did not work.

I followed the instructions and everything works perfectly now

I edited the data line in the xml file to look like this:
<Data>Comics (cbr,cbz);Books (lrf);Office Documents (odt,doc,rtf);PDFs (pdf);Text Files (txt,log)</Data>

Now my books and comics are auto imported.
Also, I can now set custom programs to open them under option/filetypes.

In case anyone cares here are the programs i am using for my books and comics.
They are all really good.
cbz,cbr - MMCE v2.4beta
pdf - PDF XchangePDFViewer
doc,rtf - OpenOffice
lrf - Calibre2 (make sure lrfviewer.exe is selected and not calibre.exe for opening them)

I'm using "fill properties from filename" to add tags.

I'm temporarily setting the media type to Video in order for the album art to show up(folder.jpg)
Cover art can be extracted from the cbr and cbz using winrar

Thank you Lasse_Lus , you have been very helpful
