Independant Zone Display failing me
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:23:29 am »

I’m having a problem with the relationship between zones and views.  I though that I had this working and now it doesn’t.
The two zones are setup associated with their respective hardware, a USB DAC and the headphones jack.
The idea is to drag songs song to play in the room to the DAC View and songs to sample to the headset. I need for these two views to be independent of each other So that I can be in the headset view/zone and still look at what is going on in the DAC view/zone.  Also so I know that the Dac file list and play order are safe and I can’t screw it up when I’m over listening to perspective songs.
This is how I was doing this:
Display split into three views, Dance List, DAC Zone, and Headphones Zone.
View>Split View>Show 3 Views
Select First View then
Org Tree: Audio>Dance
Select Second View then
Org Tree: Playing Now>DAC
Select Third View then
Org Tree: Playing Now>Headphones
Both Views change to Headphones I even tried
View>Split View>Lock View 1
But that is no help although the words “Lock View 1” makes me think it would “Lock View 1”. Possibly it locks some other aspect of view 1 than its feed or source.
Neither zone is linked to any other.
I need help with this, it backfired on me at a dance last night and I have another one tonight.

This could be a continuation of this thread but because Im no longer trying to lock a "Tab" the technical focus might be different although functional Im still trying to get the same job done.

Also, where can I find a description of what  View > Split View > Lock View # does? What is it's function?
I tried at http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Split_View but it dead ends. A forum search has not be helpful yet.

I did some experimenting with "View>Split View>Lock View #"

Test 1
Split to 2 views
left view - Dance
right view - DAC

with focus on right view, select headphone zone = right view changes to Headphones left and view stays on Dance.

Test 2
Split to 2 views
left view - Dance
right view - DAC
with focus on right view, View>Split View>Lock View 2

with focus on right view, select headphone zone = right view changes to Headphones and left view changes to Headphones Also.

So lock view 2 means Lock view 1 to view 2 the next time you change view.
Is this a bug or the intended behavior?

If a split view is locked, navigation to a different view (i.e., a selection in the tree) should take place in the unlocked view, even if the locked view has focus. It's purpose is to prevent accidental changing of views intended for the unlocked view.

It doesn't work properly when the view is locked to a Playing Now zone. I'd call that a bug.

FWIW, it does work if locked to the Playing Now Overview.

Then I can quit experimenting with the zone.
