Tip (+request): Spotify plugin for Jamcast DLNA server
« on: May 25, 2012, 01:08:47 pm »

Hi,

The Spotify plugin for Jamcast DLNA server has recently been open-sourced: http://spotifyforjamcast.codeplex.com/. It's easily built with Visual Studio and runs great.
I'm able to browse and play my Spotify playlists with a Philips NP2900 renderer and Windows Media Player (+Center). I can also control MC to play those lists with MediaConnect on iOS.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to access the Spotify playlists within MC. MC sees the playlists served by Jamcast but not the Spotify ones...
I hope this can be solved. This would be great!

Thanks,

Sheugel

I see MC can handle the m3u's served by jamcast, but only as individual tracks... How can I see the mere playlists within MC as DLNA client (and not the files behind them). It could solve my problem. If I customize the audio view to display the playlist media type, I get nothing.
Thanks

I just making a guess since I don't know that we can do what you are trying to do but if you add the url(s) to the m3u(s) under webmedia then create a playlist containing those url(s) they will show up under playlists when you browse from the device. I've had success using that method to play web streams on my DLNA devices. You can also tag the "stream" with Album and Artist in MC's database to get useful information on the renderer device as well.

Thanks for your answer Bob.
I posted on the Jamcast forum and received a great feedback:

I hope you can have a look at this.
I think it would be a great feature to have a way to play the Spotify lists within MC (as requested numerous times on this forum but not possible until now). Note that the single streams of Spotify tracks can be played within MC and metadata displayed. So that's just a matter of handling the lists (or basically the folder structure of the Jamcast plugins).
Thank you!

A way of integrating Spotify in MC had been absolutely smashing. Keep it up!

Hi,
Is there still no plan for MC18 to integrate a simple DLNA browse feature in order to achieve this?
Thanks,

I'm coming back again with this.
My question is simple: would it be hard to implement a second way for MC to handle DLNA as a renderer, being a simple browse structure of the server?
It could be an option.
This would be so cool.
Thanks,
