Display modifications to Theater View to avoid burn in

Porting changes that will allow us to do a Mac version are a big part of MC18 (though the license will be different).

This should also make it easier to port portions to other OS's at a later time.

Whatever the features will be, I've just upgraded, the product is so good that it worth the price.

Is there any plan to add features related to the DSP? (automatic zone changes depending of the media, channel routing for VST, etc.)

Some of the audio changes on the short list include:

Improved loopback and line-in playback

Ability to load and save DSP settings so you can have different settings for different file types, different media types, etc.

Improved DSD / SACD support

Convolution support for filter bank switching for different sample rates

+100, I'm still not able to use this feature on my Profire 610, I can't get a stable audio stream (tons of glitches and distortion)

wow! i'm glad to hear that plans are underway to start porting to Mac. I'm not a Mac user, nor a Windows user. (I hate both for their proprietary-ness), but I've left my media pc running windows solely for the purpose of running J River MC, which i've used since the last millennium now, I think it's been! No other media player in the world, for any OS, comes *close* to J River in terms of sheer breadth.

Personally, what would make my day is either an Android tablet or Linux (ubuntu) port. I acknowlege the latter is unlikely to happen but porting to Mac, ipad, and android tablets seems like the only logical option for j river to take at this time, given the directions of the industry at large. Windows 8 may or may not succeed but in the scheme of things, no doubt windows is shrinking in significance.

That's great news! I've recently switched to Mac and had resigned myself to having to leave Media Center behind. Hope that there is feature parity when this occurs. If it's close, I'll be there to plop my money down again. Is there a general time frame for this yet or is just something that you are preparing your architecture for at this time?

Not to throw ice water on this thread, but none of the features quoted so far really seem to be "must-have" major additions. I'm sure some will find them useful, but personally, I'm not sure it's worthy of a full new-version release.

Or am I expecting too much from a full-point version update?

Is it possible for that users who don't use video to do a maybe "optimized" version without that stuff (audio only version)?

There is only ONE missing feature in MC that keeps me using SMPlayer for video:
The ability to remember or save hue, contrast, brightness, color settings in general for EACH FILE in library

KILLER FEATURES would be:
1- Ability to save dsp features inlcuding DYNAMIC RANGE (there SHOULD be a expander/compessor in MC) (*) for audio albums and/or playlists at least
2- Ability to save color, brightness and contrast settings for each movie, maybe dsp settings also

(*) non permanent dynamic range changing would be great, for ex: EXPAND low quality mp3 for better sound, COMPRESS high dynamic flacs for a party

I would like to see an additional media tag for "Original Release Date". So many albums are re-released (often numerous times) as remasters or with additional tracks it would be really helpful to have two tags for dates so you could see both the original release date for the album plus the release date of the new version(s).

Alex B made some detailed suggestions on how to implement the mp3 ID3v2.3-4 tags TORY and TDOR that are designated for this purpose in this post http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=50762.msg361205#msg361205

In addition to what Alex B suggested I would recommend for ID3v2.3 an additional JR/ORIGINAL_DATE frame for storing the precise date. This works well for the Date field (TYER) (except that MC is always reading the JR/DATE value even if the TYER value has been changed using an external program).

If you are using flac or ogg files you can already import any tag (Vorbis comment) into MC.

You can do this yourself, just create a custom date field like I did:

"Date" / "Date: Release" - original release date of the album (I have copies of my main fields (name, album, date, etc...) to make sure data does not get changed)
"Date: Version" - release date of the re-released album

normally when displaying albums I use an expression

[Date: Released] - [Album] [[Date: Version]]
1980 - Some Album [Remastered] [2012]

I also have several other date fields:
"Date: First Appeared" - mostly used for compilation albums, I put the date when the song first came out
"Date: Recorded" - mostly used for live performances

This is of course possible (and I have such a custom field for date recorded/performed as well and I am contemplating on adding an additional field for Date first released as single, for tracks on compilation or VA albums). But unfortunately this does not work well with other software that adheres to the ID3v.2 standard and uses the tags I mentioned. The Logitech Media Server that I use for playback is one example.
