Playback error multi channel ogg
« on: October 07, 2012, 03:13:03 pm »

Hello
I'm evaluating MC for my 70% music, 20% movie, 10% TV show usage.
A good experience so far, except that multi channel ogg files do not play.
'Something went wrong with playback'.
I have 4500 of these ogg files - so that's a deal breaker for me.
Any chance to get this fixed?

btw I moved to MC18 to see if it helps, but no joy, exactly the same

Thanks,
Guido

I've done some further testing.

Server, Win7 x64, Stereo Analog Out Realtek, MC18:
All play fine except .ogg 4.0 or 5.1

Office Desktop, Win 8 x64, HDMI to Receiver, Directsound, MC17:
.ogg is a problem,
.wma is a problem

HTPC, Win7 x64, HDMI to Receiver, WASAPI Event, MC18
.ogg is a problem

All files in question play perfectly fine using whatever other player,
explicitly tested today using VLC, Foobar2000, XBMC

All other surround files play perfectly, flac, dts, ac3
All stereo files play fine, but I'm into Surround

I'll upgrade the office pc to MC18 as a next step to see if wma is
solved by MC18. UPDATE: Nope, still the same.

Here is a sample to test the issue
30s taken from a DVD-Audio in 5.1 24/48
flac
ogg, created from the flac using the current MC18

MC will not play the ogg it created

Hmm not a single reply, no one interested.
That's the life as a surround sound enthuisac

What to do to get someone at least trying this out themselves?
Maybe someone from jriver could do a quick check to confirm
this a bug or not?

Or any user, see the files posted above - zero downloads so far.
cmon guys!   ;)

The  OGG file does not play for me in Media Center, either.  I get the same error as the original poster.

It plays fine in Media Player Classic Home Cinema  (installed with CCCP), including discrete channels.  Maybe there is an issue building the filter graph?

Bugs should be reported in the thread that announces the build  you are using.  Make sure you have the latest build installed.  It's always at the top of this board.  You could link to this thread there.

ok, I'll do so, but the issue first appeared in the current MC17, then in 18.51 - thread closed meanwhile, now in 18.55
Seems to me it's not all that build-related.

Thanks for the sample file.

The next build of MC18 will add support for multi-channel OGG files:
NEW: Added support for OGG files that have more than two channels.
