Author Topic: MC running on two computers - Clash on the network (DLNA) [SOLVED]  (Read 3933 times)

I have MC running on my HTPC, my work computer and my notebook.

All DLNA controllers I've tested (quite a few) including MC itself(!) will only see ONE of the running MCs at any one time. They seem to clash in some way.





PS:
One key to the problem might be (grasping at straws here...) that I do a library backup from my main MC on the work pc and then do a restore library (including "settings") on the other ones from that backup. I like to have the same views and the same settings on all three.

Have you tried changing the Display Names for the DLNA Servers?

I think this is the problem, because it can cause each copy to expose its zones as DLNA renderers using the same UUID.

It's tricky because if you restore a library to the same computer, this is good.  If you restore to a different computer, this is bad.

To test this theory, search the registry for "Player Zone GUID" and delete the values.  This will cause a new GUID to get created for the zones.

I suspected a GUID/UUID of some sort in the backup. I found Player Zone GUID in two different places, in one there are three separate ones. Any hint to which to delete?

Delete both.

The second location is the new location, but we'll load from the legacy location if that's not found.

By the way, sorry not to have a more definitive answer on this.

I think we're on the right track, but it hasn't been a common problem.  That means we have to feel our way along a little bit.

If we get to the bottom of it, hopefully we'll be able to improve it for the future.

Checked, the Zone 0 UUID is different on the two machines I'm running MC on just now. Still no go.



EDIT: They were identical before this. So the deletion did make them different.

Even with MC running on only two machines I can only see one of them in any DLNA controller I try.


EDIT/UPDATE:
I do see all MC players from all DLNA contollers (including MC itself).

But only one MC DLNA server.

I deleted the "Server UUID" key under:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 18\DLNA\Servers\{2988420A-7679-4D75-B0CF-13D185742B85}]

"Server UUID"="uuid:99ae4108-ff0a-49a1-8542-295aa036eb44"


And now I see all MC's running on different pcs. Both DLNA players and DLNA servers.


The key was not recreated though!

A sidenote:

For Gizmo to work I need to recreate the gizmo server access key key  ( option >> Media network >> Access Key ) since after restoring from the backup file this key is overwritten with the identical key from the pc that the backup comes from. So, with two machines having the same access key it's a no go for gizmo but after the delete+recreate of the access key - done within the gui - all is fine with gizmo.

You might want to try changing that too... Since you said you restored the backup with settings, it would set the same network port.  While this should work (they have different IP addresses), I've seen conflicts there before with two copies of MC running on the same LAN using the same Media Network port.

Besides, if you do any port forwarding, it is handy to have them on separate ports anyway, so no big deal changing one of them.  Worth a shot.

Thanks but it's working as it should after deleting both the Player Zone GUID and the Server UUID keys. The only oddity is that the Server UUID key isn't recreated by MC.

I Have the same issue.   I  use the restored my library  to move the database accessing mirror images of hard drives.

My remoote acces was fine until I did this.. Now I can't access the library from a  PC on the local net remotely.

I don't exactly understand this thread.  Am I to delete all of the SERVER UIDs and I should do this on All machines

What are the ground rules on this restore a library.     I have just been saving my main library which has all of the edits and then restoring it on my other PC's so that I have identical versions....  I synch the data drives up as well.  What should I do?

I do a full restore including restoring settings. Then I have a file called restore.reg that I import to the registry with just a double click. It's contents is a simple text file with the text seen below.

IMPORTANT NOTE: change the text "server" to some six character name that is unique for each MC you have running on your netork. I have one "laptop" and one "server" and so on.
