OSX - No Support for WMA Lossless
« on: September 06, 2013, 03:25:55 pm »

My entire collection is in WMA Lossless.

Does the OSX version of JRiver even see these files?  I can't seem to get them to add to my database.

Thanks

Sorry, but Windows Media is a Windows-only thing.  We use the Microsoft decoder (and Windows Media DRM engine) and none of that is available outside Windows.

You might consider converting to an open lossless format that works on all platforms like APE or FLAC.

Microsoft supplies the codec for OSX for WMA Lossless.  Will you support it?

Only if there's source code for decoding, which I don't see there.

Cross-linking one of your old threads for context:

Everything now is in WMA Lossless (FLAC did not cut it on the PC side).

I can now play them in QuickTime and VLC.  I would love to play them in JRiver (which I use on my PC).  Any chance is v 19 for OSX?

Not unless Microsoft open sources a decoder that will compile on Windows, Mac, and Linux (like APE, FLAC, WV, and even ALAC provide).

My understanding is that both LibAV and ffmpeg are using Open Source for their WMA Lossless decoding.  Don't know if this is from Microsoft or not though.
