analyze audio stuck on file 2 of 24,000 since version 30's
« on: October 10, 2013, 09:00:00 pm »

since version 30's any time i do auto import it sits on file 2 of 24,000. and i have to force close jriver. Also auto import has stopped working as well since version 30's. i have left import analyze audio running for days on end, with no movement past file 2.

if i press stop nothing happens. when i do to force close, then dialog pops up stating are you sure import is going on in background. then i must hit yes im sure then jriver will finally close.

Could you provide a copy of the file that hangs to logs at jriver dot com?

I'm gone for a few days, but will test it in the debugger when I'm back.

Thanks.

I saw similar problem(s). All were caused by corrupt mp3s. Matt added more error detection to fix my problems. While waiting for Matt you might simply remove the file from your library.

Select all files and analyze audio. You should see which files it hangs on.

Black on black skin isnt showing Audio screen (have also noticed ever since using 19, that scroll bars disappear with black on black skin/ goto tag director, or keyword and then upon returning to all tags, scroll bar will be gone) i always have to resize dividers in order to get scroll bars back. and many time it seems as if jriver is locked up, but its actually hidden dialogs that are not showing on screen.
switched to aruba (not my choice for a skin) and now analyzing audio. will let you know how it goes

well not sure whats going on with standard skins. i guess it isnt black on black. any sin i start with then select all audio files, then analyze audio, she hangs for  abit, then i see jriver flash and an additional window added to windows toolbar, when hovering over window it states analyze audio. when trying to click it open nothing happens. I then goto standardview/edit skins, and change to ANY skin and then analyze audio window appears.

Well i think it's an .ape issue. everytime it locks up doing audio analysis it's on a .ape file. i did a search for all .ape files then tried doing a convert format to mp3 and replace/delete the .ape files and after conversion stated complete i went and checked all .ape files(131 total) all .ape's were still in the file locations, and their were no .mp3's so conversion doesnt seem to be working for either.. another one of them nights.
Have sent one of the .ape files to logs@jriver.com and will see what surfaces.

file is to big.

Matt it looks as if you are still joined to my dropbox (I've thrown it in jriver support/jriver 19 dropbox folder and included a notepad with things tried, and .ape file.
Thanks

I looked at that ape file you sent and it is apparently corrupt.  Media Center reports an error in playback.  Other programs I tried just crash.

When I do analysis on that file, it reports an error and the status goes back to "Queued".

Make sure you're using build 19.0.41 or newer, which had this fix:
  3. Fixed: A corrupted APE file could cause decoding to stall in rare cases.

I'm using 56, and i tried import again last night, because i had new files i wanted in library/clients to see.

1. new files had been on watched networked drives for over 2 days but had not auto imported into server
2. after doing a task manager to kill jriver then reopening and choosing auto import the new files imported into jriver, after jriver finished importing and started analyzing audio it got to file 1 of 24,000 and did not move for over 2 hours, which is when i decided to force close jriver and reopen it.
thanks

What if you analyze manually?

If it sticks on a specific file, could you provide a copy?  John has a copy of one file, but it doesn't stall (just errors and stops).

all tests ran manually... by selecting audio/select all/ right click analyze audio

new screenshots and audio files added to the dropbox folder. i couldn't figure out how to get past the 1 file that was bad (jriver kept halting, and when i tied analyzing again it would halt on same file that was bad) , so i cut it from location, and moved it to dropbox, then re-did audio analysis.

you'll also notice a screenshot of 30 files not audio type that will be skipped error.

also in case you guys were not aware, when in audio analysis, right clicking works, but if i choose locate on disk external, nothing happens, i have to go back to jriver interface and do a search for that bad file then locate on disk works.

right click delete however does works.

just checkin in... looking to get JRiver server maintenance free/100% hands off again.

1. Auto import to work on it's own (has not auto imported last couple versions)
2. analyze audio to finish in completion (what this topic is about)
3. being able to do a manual import without having to force quit. when jriver server is running, and when i go do a manual import it locks up upon clicking on Run auto import now/Finish
4. standard view skin window bars have to be constantly resized after a actor, Description, keyword, director is entered in tags to get ones scroll bar back. (it looks as if it's when ever a text box is available/when clicking a drop down tag the scroll bar sticks)
thanks

1. Analyze audio doesn't skip over bad files; it stops analyzing.

2. Analyze fails, MC crashes on multi-channel files.

new info found
upon importing if one STOPS the audio analysis before audio analysis gets stuck, one can continue using JRiver without a force quit. if JRiver gets stuck then force quit is mandatory.
as mentioned in prior post all other issues are still happening.

you guys are up to 66 now, any news on these problems?
only positive change im seeing is if one chooses stop, the auto import/analyze audio will eventually stop (force quit not needed) but all other issues are still here...
1. Auto import to work on it's own (has not auto imported since version 30's)
2. analyze audio to finish in completion (what this topic is about)
3. being able to do a manual import without having to force quit. when jriver server is running, and when i go do a manual import it locks up upon clicking on Run auto import now/Finish
4. standard view skin window bars have to be constantly resized after a actor, Description, keyword, director is entered in tags to get ones scroll bar back. (it looks as if it's when ever a text box is available/when clicking a drop down tag the scroll bar sticks/the bar must manually moved ever so slightly then the scroll bar comes back)
Thanks

It sounds like a problem file may be causing trouble.

If you can find it, please email a copy to logs at jriver dot com.

Thanks.

ive done as you instructed on the 17th, but yet to hear a reply.. have you guys looked at the files?
i guess my question is, how do i as the customer/user know which is the problem file, when all the files i put in the dropbox on the 17th were labeled as error'd files and were locking up jriver, and every new import on versions since are still causing the same problems?
just keep running audio analysis, goto open file location for errored file, then cut it and throw in dropbox for you, then force quit, then re analyze and repeat for the remaining 24,000 files?

I'm having issues with SACD ISO files causing errors or crashes.

Some were multi-channel, and some others may not be.

I will check.

I excluded known multi-channel from View Scheme for analysis of all files, and another workaround is to click the Filename column header which will resort the files allowing you to skip over the ones that just caused the stop.

Make à smart list to show which files have not been analyzed first of all.

Then go to the list and skip the first 4 files or if they are all part of thé same album skip the album.  Select the rest and analyze them.  Until it gets stuck again.

Refresh the smart list and repeat. Of 86k files I had 88 bad rips or corrupted files. Two entire albums and a couple of tracks which were in sequence usually at the end or beginning of an album.  Removed them from the library and no more problems

You can also refind the first bad track by the error list in the analysis box. Of course they are all not bad files. Actually took me 15 minutes for  6000 CDs and was happy to find that the tracks were bad :)

Of course you have to do this manually and uncheck analysis in auto import until you fix or remove the files.

It would be nice if MC just skipped the files and gave an error report, but hey not a big one

i thought i'd wait and see if JRiver would fix ANYTHING from the list of problems mentioned above and they have not as of newest unstable version.

Arindelle could you please guide me in how to setup the Audio analysis smartlist? i went to Playlists, right clicked chose create smartlist, chose audio and video, and then chose add rule, but i'm not seeing anything stating audio analysis, which of the items should i chose that will show me those 24,000 not analyzed?
Thanks for you help in advance.

Just use Search to look for any files with empty audio analysis fields, such as:

  [Volume Level (R128)]=[]

;D ah Mr. C you beat me to the punch!!

basically all you have to do is make a rule pick any field with (R128) in it which is the new stuff, and choose is empty ... (like Mr. C did with Volume level and I did with dynamic range)

just hit the import button on a new smartlist and paste Mr; C's code in

or
here's mine  :D

Code: [Select]
[Dynamic Range (R128)]=[] [Duration]=>35 -[File Type]=[m4p] ~sort=[Album Artist],[Artist],[Media Type],[Album Artist (auto)],[Album],[Disc #],[Track #],[Name]
It skips files shorter than 35 seconds (they won't be analyzed anyway).

The rest is just how I sorted the tracks and and avoiding proprietary apple mp4 crap thats still floating around

thanks to both of you.. the video files 23,723 are now successfully being analyzed. i gave audio a chance (5200 files needing to be analyzed) but every 2,5,9 files it would lock up. so figured i'll hit the big video chunk now while i go rack leaves. then hit those stragglers later this eve...

Just for confirmation... all audio files that jriver cannot analyze means those files are unplayable anywhere.... so remove/delete from disk, and remove empty folder?
Thanks

I'd double check in some other player just to be sure, but in my case all the files I found were unplayable anywhere (used Audacity btw). I hadn't even tried to listen to them for years -- so I erased them from the hard disk and library

It could help Matt and Co to send some of them in
Quote from: Matt

-- I wouldn't erase them just yet if I were you, they might have long file names or something that passed through or "fla" instead of flac as extension. Just remove them from your library  - if they can be fixed you can then reimport. I should have sent mine in but it was obvious that the problem was on my end and not JRiver's

@Matt -- could it be possible to have analysis just skip the "bad" files , or put them at the bottom of the queue list on error? I actually appreciated finding out that I had some bad rips, maybe it could be used as a tool for bad naming or unreadable files or non-supported extensions at the same time. Not high on my wish list, just a thought

Video audio analysis ending results( i can no longer move forward due to JRiver's limitations/ 9 files tops, and abundance of errors) ive went through ALL files by doing chunks leaving me with the remaining below...
SubType
Home Video - 12 files left all of which are Morphs i made (no audio but video slideshows of humans from birth to death) need a fix.

Movie - (no clue how to proceed) 58 total files many files cannot be analyzed or played(when playing in wmp they play and their is sound)
WMP pre play error - the file you are attempting to play has an extension of (.mpeg/.avi) that does not match the file format. playing file may result in unexpected behavior) files play fine after excepting error. Many of these files i cannot get jriver to play. (file types are all set to JRiver)

many other files play fine, i can hear audio but when analyzing it just states queued.. nothing happens.

Music Video - 19 files.. same problem as with movie, many do not play or analyze in jriver, but upon doing on disk external they play fine in wmp viewer.

Other - 126 files (magic/martial arts/ training videos) all play fine, analysis stops/hangs on all of these. different %'s for each file, some 3% some 98% cannot get any to successfully complete.

Stock - 2617 files all under 35 seconds (dvd menu's and back drops.) all video files with NO audio in them. none can be analyzed.

TV show - 96 files same problem as movies, many do not play or analyze in jriver, but upon doing on disk external they play fine in wmp viewer.

.ts were causing errors (engine MUST BE AUTOMATIC OR JRiver) now analyzed
.swf were causing errors (engine MUST BE AUTOMATIC OR JRiver) now analyzed
something went wrong with playback failed to connect audio decoder to source/ splitter

Audio File Analysis chunks in progress now.

in meantime how would you all like me to proceed with video files? obviously i cannot put all these files in dropbox.
will await your instructions.
Thanks for the help guys.

I do as well. Had trouble with MC 18 and same issues with 19. I restarted the program and then it will go further before it crashes. Uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of time which works much much longer before it crashes. I kept doing this until I completed   all of my 34,000 files. Wish I knew a more elegant way but it worked.

If you have a file that fails gracefully to analyze, this might just be the way it is.

If you have a file that fails ungracefully (ie. hangs, crashes, etc.) please provide a sample.  Start with one or two of the smallest files and we can go from there.

Thanks.

I've now went through ALL video files, and found file types/EXT's that were having similar problems and added one file type of each, and wrote detailed info/errors in a notepad in the JRiver dropbox folder. (named (VIDEO Subtype Audio Analysis Issues)

All Audio files all good now (analyzed/deleted) by using Mr.C's rule of - [Volume Level (R128)]=[] Thanx Mr.C/Arindelle

you'll also notice a folder named (Video proof that skins and tags have to be resized upon each drop down entry) I've been dealing with this since the 30's versions, and i import ALOT of files. so it takes lots of time especially when one has multiple tags to fill in for each file...you will notice locks up upon trying to auto import/force close, then upon new auto import locks up on Audio analysis, when pressing stop nothing happens, must force quit to see recently imported items, upon restart and beginning to tag files any dropdown that i enter text into lmakes the scrollbar in tags disappear, and i have to move the divider bar to see the scroll bar again. (some tags especially home/family files there are multipel times this happen on EACH file, events, places, keywords, genres, actors, etc...)

Thanks for eveyones help.
Will await JRiver's reply on the dropbox'd files.

You guys (Matt/JRiver) have the Folders/Files stored locally yet (moved to a NON dropbox Folder)?
Can i remove them from dropbox?
We could use the space due to the fact we use Dropbox for our customers at this time.
Thanks

Sorry, but I didn't know there was anything on Dropbox yet.  I checked now and see some files for logs at jriver dot com.

I'm downloading some now.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what the logs at jriver dot com is but My dropbox folder (JRiver Support\JRiver 19) that you joined prior is showing 2 folders...
1. Video proof that skins and tags have to be resized upon each drop down entry
2. VIDEO subtype audio analysis issues
each of those have notepads and video screenshots in them with hopefully some clear explanations of errors/problems.

Thanks Matt for looking into these. It will be so nice to have JRiver running smoothly here again.

Thanks.  I've got the videos, other than the Pink Floyd DVD since it's so big, and can replicate that many won't play.

We'll work through this slowly.  I'm sending a few files on to Hendrik and will follow up when I know more.

Next Build:
Fixed: Videos with WMA audio could sometimes fail to analyze and play

Not sure if that fixes all of your problem files, but it does fix the ones Matt shared with me.

Thanks Hendrik, will update here after next build is released. Have you had a chance to see the screenshot video as well in regards to having to resize divider bars on each tag entry?

As of today's newest version . 82 we're getting there BUT still broke guys :(

Results below - all files still in dropbox for these subtypes that are erroring/not removing once analyzed.

home video 12 errors/left still erroring - all of them are erroring
movie - 93 still erroring
music videos - 6 still erroring
other - 123 still erroring
stock - 2619 still erroring
TV show - great progress, down to 27, but of those 27 20 of them show as analyzed when you try to analyze them.

Many of the files are video only without audio.

Analyze audio will error on these files (there's no audio!), but this should not cause any problems.

Hendrik is looking at a couple other files that should play but don't.

if there's no audio, how do i tell it its not audio, dont analyze? if there's no way to tell it skip these files then analysis will never complete... it does cause problems if we have analyze audio turned on in auto import it just hangs, and never stops. (if you have time maybe you can check out the video in dropbox i made showing the auto import, audio analysis lock up and having to use task manager to kill jriver so that analysis stops running.)

Thanks for fixing the scrollbar for tags :)

I've been searching everywhere for a solution to this very problem. I have similar hangs in auto-analyze, repeat copies of "recent albums" being imported etc. I have deleted several files out of frustration. If there's any way I can help provide some info, I would be happy to do so.

brunk just curious... is your auto importing working? if you add files to a folder jriver watches, and then wait a few hours/days will jriver ever import those new files?
i have Run auto import in background turned on under Library & folders in settings but no new files, and if i then goto tools\import\run auto import, she locks up, and i have to force close, then reopen jriver, then tools\import\run auto import and it will then show me new imported files.

today's newest version... all problems listed above (in detail) still exist.
Brief below

1. auto import in background - unstable, lockups and force quits needed.
2. analyze audio does not complete. ( list is growing of files UN-analized due to new imports and no fix.) Stuck at File 1 of 2272/force quit needed.
