.mts files not importing?
« on: February 22, 2014, 01:39:49 pm »

I have a bunch of .mts files already in the library from imports using previous versions.  Trying to get the new raw files from the camcorder in, and they are not importing for some reason.  Using import, I chose the folder with the .mts files, confirm that .mts is checked in the list of file types to import and run the import.  The import finishes immediately and reports that it took 0:00 time and imported 0 new files.  In depth details is blank.  No errors, no messages, it just doesn't import the files that are in that folder.  Any suggestions?

That may just mean that the files have already been imported.  Try searching for them.

That was the first thing I checked.  I have a workshop view for all files by location, and they are not in the library yet.  Nothing in that folder is in the library.

As a test, I copied one of the files to a different location, and it imported fine.  Still won't import from where it is on a network drive with all of my other media (that imports fine).

Any thoughts on why it wont import from that location (\\APOLLO\Video\Home Videos\Canon HG10\AVCHD 2013-02-21\BDMV)?

Try moving them from the "BDMV" sub folder as MC thinks it is a BD rather than a set of individual files.

The issue here is that the files HAVE to be in that folder for tools like Final Cut to be able to open them. In their infinite wisdom, Apple refuses to work with stand alone mts/m2ts files.

A work around would be to copy them, then import them, then update the library to point to their correct location.  A lot of extra steps for something jrmc used to be able to handle on its own.  The other drive archives from this camera imported fine in previous versions.

It should be able to detect the difference between an actual BD, and an AVCHD. AVCHDs won't play with the BD logic anyway.
I'll have a look soon.

As I found, if the content of an AVCHD are renamed from 8.1 --> long file names then they play as per a BD just fine.

Hence a simple test to distinguish between BD and AVCHD is to check the files instead of the folders eg, there is no "index.bdmv" (it is of course "index.bdm")

I tried to reproduce this for a while, but I couldn't get MC to fail to import a .mts video in a AVCHD structure - but I don't have a camera which produces it, so maybe i'm missing a piece in my fake structure.

Can you maybe produce a test folder, ie. record a few seconds and then zip the entire BDMV structure up and share it for me to test?
You can share bigger files through Dropbox or similar.

Thanks.

In the next build:
6. Fixed: Importing .mts files in a AVCHD folder structure did not work.

Been out of town, but happy to say that the new build is working - the files are now importing correctly.  Thanks.
