Teach Glynor: Links
« on: April 05, 2014, 08:10:21 pm »

So... One thing I've been meaning to do with MC for half-past forever is set up some good Links.  I basically just have the defaults, which don't work very well for stuff like TV Show episodes, audiobooks, even music and stuff like that.  Every so often I want to use them to look stuff up, and it doesn't work very well.  And, I know MrC has all sorts of marvelous toys with file:// URLs and whatnot.

I could look it all up, and figure it out, but... That's why it never gets done. Plus, I guess I'm not clear on even what I want.  I want to look stuff up in the resources appropriate for those kinds of items, without having to have a confusing or large array of links clogging up the header. So generalized smart ones that use the right tags for the right media types with the right sites, as opposed to having separate near-duplicates for different types.  And, I don't know what I don't know.

So... Here's your chance to learn me some wisdom.  Come on, I help people out sometimes when they're too lazy to look. So, do me a solid.  ;D

Thanks guys.  I got some sweet Links built up now.

I didn't do any audio ones, really.  I tweaked a few of the existing ones, but it looked like there was plenty of advice in there I can copypasta over later.  My main concern was really for video.  I thought it was actually going to be more difficult to do, in most cases, because I didn't realize you could just add a search to have them only display when certain types of files were selected (I thought this was going to have to be all embedded in the Search expression logic).

But, I've made some very handy Links for my stuff now.  I might add a few more later, but I'll share what I've got on MrC's thread.

However, there's one detail I didn't see in those threads (if it was there, I missed it, sorry): Where are these stored, Library or Settings?  (Please say Library and Clients get them automatically.)

I don't know why I asked, and didn't just test.

Library, and yes.
