Install fails on one of three machines
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:37:16 am »

hi,
i had bought MC 19 n upgraded til the last version 19.0.163
then i've bought the upgrade license for MC20the installation works fine on 2 of my pcs
but not on the 3rd one
after unpacking the file 200010.exe, the window of the instal wizard immediately start blinking
n continously, so i am unable to install MC20
the 3 pcs r under win 8.1 64 bits, with Avast and malwarebytes, so same configuration
i cant understand why it works on 2 of them and not on the third ?
Could someone help me, please
any help would be very much appreciate
best regards

A blinking non functional window?  That's a mystery.

Maybe try decompressing the archive manually and run the Install.exe manually.

The antivirus settings may differ.

Shut down the "security" software.  If that doesn't work, uninstall it.

Are you running two antivirus programs?

Then uninstall it.  Just to test.

But what about the other one?

We've had many cases where disabling didn't work, but uninstalling did.  I'm not certain that the antivirus is your problem, but uninstalling is the only way to rule it out.

Is the hardware old?

Disk space?

Look at install problems in this thread:

DO NOT use two AV programs on one computer.  It is asking for trouble.

Uninstall malwarebytes.  Make sure both are uninstalled when you test.

DO NOT use two AV systems on one computer.  It is asking for trouble.

Uninstall malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes is a bit different than the typical AV system, and can usually run side-by-side with more traditional on-the-fly scanners.  I'm not very experienced with their Pro version, but I'm skeptical that it would be the cause of this issue.  Unless, perhaps, the Pro version's on-the-fly scanner is getting in the way (as I said, I don't use that, and the free edition is on-demand only).

I run Malwarebytes (free) on every single Windows machine and VM I use.

I think this issue is something else, though it could be Avast, which has some fairly well-documented issues (though typically just with false positives).  If uninstalling Avast and disabling Malwarebytes doesn't solve it, I think the problem lies elsewhere.

i have 179 Gb free on the 256 gb Samsung ssd 840 pro

There are firmware updates for this drive.  I have one.  A good drive, but worth checking for an update.

Failure to unzip (which is probably what is happening when it freezes), if not AV-related, is probably:

1. Bad RAM.
2. Disk issues (either filesystem corruption, firmware, or drive failure).
3. Borked Windows.

The Samsung 840 SSD is up to date with Samsung Magician 4.4.
I dont have any other problem on this PC, he is even very fast to shut on and install other software
On another hand, my 2 other win 8.1  pcs where the installation worked fine have EXACTLY the same software
that is Avast pro and Malwarebytes pro with the same configurations too ...
Also, the unzipping work fine, but it's after the files are all uncompressed, that the blinking window happen,
immediately ...  even before the License agreement appears
I am really confused to put your brains on fire
Maybe, it's just almost nothing, but not obvious
Thank you again for the brain storming

You could possibly try running the setup with administrator rights (right-click->run as administrator). You might have some borked permissions.
