Succesful playback of AAC files in MC9
« on: June 08, 2003, 09:15:42 pm »

Hey guys.

I dont know if this is old news, but i manged to get MC9 to play a aac file :)

First i went to http://rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org/, and under the aac i downloaded this file http://pessoal.onda.com.br/rjamorim/aacenc_v215.zip. If you unzip it and go to decoder\winamp there is a dll file called in_faad.dll . Copy it to the plugins folder in MC9 directory, or whereever you want it. Now that was pretty simple  ;)

Now go to media center, tool->plug-in manger, click on the button add plugins and find the plugin whereever it is on your hard drive. It should now show up under input files. Well enjoy  8)

Note1: I am using the beta 9.1
Note2: I apologies if this already have been up once
Note3: I think this is my first post, wee  ;D

[edit]
IT is also possible to encode throug MC9 with the aacenc.exe file in the zip. Just copy it to where you want it, and use it as a external encoder.
Tools --> Options --> Options --> Encodeing Choose Externam encoder as encoder and click on advance. Choose the aacenc.exe as your encoder.
Put in this line in the parameters:
-if %IN -normal -of %out
and put aac as extension

It's been discussed before. Try a search.

pank2002,

I followed your instructions, I could decode but not encode. When I try to encode MC seems to work for half a sec and then says 'conversion finished' but it does create any aac file.

Use EAC and the encoder included. Should be able to get them to encode then.

Use EAC

OK, but does it mean that there is no way to use MC to encode to aac?

Not unless someone ports it to MC's SDK specs.

Any takers?

I'm very excited about this, however I can't get the external encoder to work as well. I see no reason why it shouldn't work, or why it would have to be a part of the MC SDK. If the external encoder is a command line program, and MC decodes to WAV and then calls the program... it should work. Any help???

It wouldn't be a part of MC's SDK. Basically the SDK only tells programmers how MC handles - executes commands. And how they would have to modify either an executable or .dll to accommodate these protocols for MC to use.

well this is wierd... i added the decoder successfully (btw, i tried this before w/ other AAC decoders and always got a plugin failure -- this one seemed to work fine) ... BUT, whenever i try and play an .m4a, it doesn't work.

do i need to rename them to mp4?

ok... so i renamed my files to .mp4 and it works fine -- some of the files don't play though (but they play in Winamp using the faab.dll). wierd.

here's my problem. all the .mp4's show video reels by them and bring up the video dialog box.

anyway around this?

MP4 is a container for AAC as well.

understand that part but how can i prevent MC from displaying the files as movies. i'd like it to associate the mp4s as just music and not popup the movie window, etc..

:c

*update* not all of the songs ive imported plays in MC... although when i drag them into Winamp, they play just fine.

wierd.

That's most likely because using in_faad.dll (which is technically a plugin for Winamp) in MC to play aac or mp4 files is basically a hack, so weird behavior should probably be expected.

cubedco,

If you go into the tag info in the action window for each file that is displayed as a movie and change its media type to audio this will solve your problem,
