hi, when i make a connection to my server ftp logs me this error:
Couldn't open temporary directory file for reading ..
and I don't see anything on the server side windows.
I'm running Ftp win ver 3.50 on a win Xp prof.  
What can i do?

Do you see the windows side listing?

It sounds like the permissions on the directory on the unix side may be wrong. Using telnet, log into the unix account you are trying to ftp to and do this command:

ls -ld .

See if the owner of the directory is the same as the login name.

the windows side list is visible, and i've already checked the permission on the server directory.
The user access at his own home directory and he have all permission on it.

I don't know what's happened but i remember that some times ago it works fine.

Could be a problem with the unix side ftp server. Try using the command line microsoft ftp client.

start->run
type ftp 1.2.3.4 and hit enter (where 1.2.3.4 is changed to your servers IP address)

Login with the same login and password you use with ftpwin.

Do a dir
see if it works. I'm thinking it will not. Report back.

hy, i'm here again.
'ive done the tests you have suggested and i've found that with ftp all works (only ls -ld . said access denied but for root too) with all users available. ftp-pro transfer files from pc with all users but don't show anything on the server side even if i try to loggin in with root user.

In ftp-pro can you try it in passive mode??

For an individual site, select the site and click on advanced
The top option is PASV. You probably need to turn that on if it's not already. If it IS on in rare cases you may need to turn it off.

To set this globally for all new sites, do:
View->Options
There is a checkbox called Use PASV for All Sites
Set this as in the individual site example above.

Try connecting and doing a dir again. FTP-Win can't do passive mode so you'll have to try this in FTP-Pro.

Hi Bob, I'm sorry but I've made a mistake, in my latest post I've confused ftp-pro with ftp-win.
Where can I find Ftp-pro to try?

If you have PLUS, FTP-Pro is in the ICE.TCP.PLUS start menu.

That said, to get the FTP-Pro client you will need to rerun the install and install the 5.x client on your machine. The 5.x client can coexist with the 4.4 client on the same machine without using an extra license. When you get the 5.x client installed, FTP-Pro will be in the ICE.TCP Pro menu under the windows start menu.
