I'm connected, but with strange characters
« on: February 18, 2005, 07:42:28 am »

I can dial into my server, however, when I hit enter to get my login prompt  nothing but symbols appear.  I have a GTWV92 modem with Windows XP  dialing into a USR modem.

Is there perhaps an initializing string needed?

You are connecting at the wrong speed most likely or if some of the characters look ok, the wrong parity.

Try different baud rates, 9600, 19200, 38400.
It could be that the modem on the unix side is not setup properly also.

If it's a parity problem, try 7 bits, even parity instead of 8 bits, no parity.
