ICETEN Printing w/ Windows XP
« on: August 29, 2005, 12:23:04 pm »

My client purchased a new PC with Windows XP.
She is running ICETEN version 4.7.
She is connected to a digiboard with a printer setup parallel on her PC. It is an Okidata 590 printer. The server that she is trying to print from is SCO Unix.
All of her print jobs are going to the screen instead of the printer. Her old PC was Windows 98 with the same printer. It all worked fine.
Any ideas????

Thanks

Check the terminal type setting. Printing is tied to particular terminal types by the unix application. It's probably supposed to be either Ansi 25 lines or Wyse 60 24 lines.

Check the local print settings. If you have a recent version there are 3 choices of printing methods, older versions have 2 choices for printing. Try direct to LPT1: with a buffer size of at least 3000.

Check the version she is running (Help->about dejawin) We are looking for the version, 4.7.xx

Report back.

It is set to Ansi-25 and it is set to print directly to LPT1.
It was already at buffer size 3000 but I changed it to
5000. Still getting the same results.
The version they are running is 4.7.11.

Are you sure it's supposed to be set to ansi 25 ?? You could try wyse 24.

If it prints ONE page properly and then misses the rest, I have an idea about that however if it never prints a page it's more likely the terminal type is wrong.

Our program requires the ansi 25. It is setup just like the old PC was. The only difference is the Windows OS.
I have several clients who have the same problem.
As soon as they go to Windows XP and the new version of ICETEN then they can no longer print to their printer
via the parallel port. It just prints to the screen. I can put the old PC back in place with no changes and the printer print fine.
Every once in a while it will print one or two lines but then
it starts to print to the screen again.

You have TWO variables, one is the version of Windows and the other is the version of ICE.TEN. What you need is an update to 4.7.14. There is a bug in the direct print switch in your version. The first "job" will come out on the printer but the direct print switch undoes itself after that until the program is restarted. Call sales at 612-677-8200. Refer them to this message thread.
