To All: Random Printer Fix
« on: August 03, 2007, 01:34:00 pm »

I wanted to post this in case anyone needs another idea to get things working or has any clue as to why this works:

System: Windows XP Pro SP2
ICE:       ICE/TCP Pro 5.1.26
Setup:   Network printer using local IP port. Printer used is not the default Windows printer. Winprinting, so it is set to Raster.

Issue: Cannot print from ICE/TCP, however can print from everything else, even if running the latest version of ICE/TCP Pro and have the additional settings configured. There are a couple of other workstations, and they are printing fine to this printer.

Resolution: Rename the printer on the local machine (ie: HP5M > "Printer").

As crazy as it sounds, that's all it took. The user is printing fine now.

What is a printer using a local IP port?  are you using window's built in LPD, Pro's LPD or is it something else?

What does "can print from everything else" mean?  what have you tried?  Have you printed directly from the Unix command line to this printer before you renamed it and it worked?

What happens if you rename the printer back to the original name?
