why do some w98/w2k show linedraw characters correctly while others do not even though they are running the same version of dejawin?

First of all, I'm assuming that you have the same version of dejawin on all of these machines.

It's likely that you don't have EXACTLY the same terminal type on all of the machines. Check one that is working properly and set the one that isn't to the same parameters. Check The terminal type and also the number of lines (24 vs 25).
