Title: Icelp printing problem w/ hpux
Post by: Bob on January 06, 2004, 02:49:12 pm
I am trying to setup PC Print for the first time at our location.
I have version 4.3.1 of ICE.TCP.
The version of the icelpd program is 4.07.

I have installed the icelpd program on out HP Unix server.
I have changed the services and inetd.conf files as described in the
documentation.
I have restarted the TCP/IP.
I have installed the icelp.scr script on the UNIX server.
I have created a UNIX printer using the script as described in the
documentation.
Jobs sent to this print are being move to the
/usr/tmp/IS_Printer/icelp_jobs directory.
I have configured PC Print on my machine for this printer.

Nothing prints when I start up ICELP on my machine.
This is what is in the debug file:
Time: 09:16:44.    Date: 1.5.2004.
Connection established to host 10.10.3.4.
Windows:ICELP*
HI_ICELP

Windows:DIR:/usr/tmp*
OK

Windows:IS_FILE?IS_Printer*
00000000.*
:illegal or null filename
Windows:RETURN*.
Closed connection.

Is there something I have not done or not setup properly?
What does the message "illegal or null filename" mean?

It looks like the job name has a * in it. Can you turn off icelp on the PC and print a job on the HPUX box, do an ls -l and post the results here...

The 2 prints are still in the directory since they never printed.  Here is the ls -l listing from the /usr/tmp/IS_Printer/icelp_jobs directory.

total 10
-r--r-----   1 lp         lp              41 Dec  4 15:28 18177_1
-r--r-----   1 lp         lp            3336 Jan  5 08:45 8125_1

The file names look OK to me.

Yes they look ok to me too. I'm wondering if there is a problem with the icelpd that you are running on your HPUX machine. It could be there is an incompatibility between the version of HPUX we compiled the icelpd under and the version you are running.

Any possibility we could get a login into your HPUX machine (hopefully it has a dev system installed) to check this out?
Send an email back to support if this works out for you....
