Title: installing V7.1, 3.0 on winxp laptop
Post by: tham on November 08, 2005, 12:05:11 pm
I have an external multitech  MT 5600 CDX modem attached to my laptop via a serial cable.  Have installed the software, and have attempted to dial-out.  I can hear the software dialing the number, but do not get the "handshake" and eventually get an message that says: "no carrier".

Please advise what I should be checking to clear up this problem.

Thank You

Your modem is having problems syncing with the unix side. It's a modem issue, not an ICE.OffSite issue.

You can try different baudrates (lots of unix modems are at 9600 baud by default) or try to get the manual for your build in modem to see if you can force it to connect to the unix modem with the same protocols the unix modem supports.

In general, you should lock the interface speed on the modem to at least 38.4k baud and use hardware handshaking.

Though the following thread is for a USR modem, the IDEA is the same...
