I'm installing ICElp on a new workstation, WINXP, under new user account.
I run ICElp, it asks for config.
I set it up same as other PC's in office, save.
It says restart ICElp
I restart ICElp, it says no config found
Perhaps the user does not have write permissions for the ICElp config file...
Is there a location where ICElp saves the config file on the PC?

The settings are saved in the registry. Be sure you are running the right version of ICELP for the product you are running, i.e. dont' mix versions from ICE.TCP 4.3.1 with PRO or PLUS installs.
You could also have a registry permission problem, i.e. your user can't write to the part of the registry where the icelp settings are stored from some reason or another.

Sorry I forgot to post my program versions
The XP Pro user is set as a "limited user" as opposed to an administrator, so I iwll check that. I suppose if I search the REG I can fnd where it would be stored and then set it manually to get it to work. I don't want to make the XP user an admin of the workstation.
Thanks

That's probably the issue. We don't recommend trying to run as a limited user but if you make the right registry area writable for that user it will probably work.
The settings will be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER->SOFTWARE->J.RIVER

Thanks. Can you elaborate why you don't suggest running as limted user?
I want to / need to have control on these machines from users installing crap from the net, etc.

Some of the things PRO needs to do to even be installed successfully require admin privleges. In addition, the user profiles are stored in the registry. Have you been able to save things like profile changes and hosts with a limited user? I was pretty certain that was not an option either however since you are to the point of running IceLP prehaps I'm wrong?

ICE.TCP Pro was installed under a user with admin privledges. It works ok.
ICElp was never configured during that install, and when it was attempted to be opened by the user with admin privledges, it did not save the settings either.
Any suggestions?

I assume you are running the 5.1 client.
Try directly running the Program Files->J. River->ICETCP5->ICElpConfig.exe program.
I was wrong about where the settings are saved, I was thinking of the LPD settings, not ICELP.
The file ICETCP.INI in the Windows System directory (i.e. WINNT) are where the ICELP settings are saved. It will have to be writable by the updating user when you are changing the settings.
