I am testing ice.tcp pro version 5.1.28 with windows 7 and am running into some problems.
I have downloaded the tcp-pro-demo file for 5.1.28 and installed the server portion on a system. (Windows xp pro w/service pack 3)
I have freed up some sequence numbers < 5 on our existing installation of 5.1.06 and am using them in the test environment.
I have installed the 5.1.28 telnet pro client on a windows xp system and it runs with no problems.
I have installed the 5.1.28 telnet pro client on a windows 7 system (Win7 pro SP1) that has not had the 5.1.06 client installed and it runs with no problems.
I have installed the 5.1.28 telnet pro client on a windows 7 system (Win7 pro SP1) that had the 5.1.06 client installed previously and then uninstalled. When I try to run the 5.1.28 client, I get the "Terminal Services are being run" error I was getting with the .06 client. Is there any further clean up I need to do after running uninstall on the 5.1.06 client?
Thanks,
Michael Combrink

Make sure no part of ICE (if there was a previous version installed) is running (like icelp, etc).
Uninstall and then delete the J.River registry entries (both H_KEY_Local_machine and H_KEY_Current_user) if a previous version was installed. You may want to search for all the J.River entries in the registry and remove them all.
You might want to copy or export the HKCU J River file before deleting it to save the user profile.

If you run with remote desktop you will get the terminal services error. That requires a terminal server license.

That worked. I had remote terminal enabled while I set up the system.
Thanks

Does anybody know if there is anything else that could cause this error? Our customers keep upgrading their machines to Windows 7 and it seems like a crapshoot if TCP.PRO is going to work or not.
I check the advanced settings in the My Computer properties and remote assistance and remote desktop are both disabled. I checked services.msc and none of the remote desktop or remote access services are started up.
Attempted to fully uninstall, delete reg keys, etc. as suggested by deanna, then I reinstalled. Still get the terminal services error.

What version of Pro is your customer running?

The one I'm looking at right now is 5.1.0.7. I tried to set the shortcut to run the program in compatibility mode for XP (SP3). As usual, that did nothing (not sure why I keep trying to do that).

The message you received indicates that your Windows 7 PC was not licensed correctly during the installation process. ICE.TCP Pro versions older than 5.1.21 will rarely license a Windows Vista or Windows 7 PC properly.
In order to license a Windows Vista or Windows 7 PC, you need to update your ICE.TCP Pro

As in, have our customers purchase a newer version of telnet pro? Or is there a free update?

There is no free update.
