Title: FTP-Win user ID too short
Post by: danelisha on September 09, 2004, 11:02:41 am
I cannot save a user ID longer than about 15 characters.  I need one of at least 20.  Is there a work around?  The Pro version connects ok, but I prefer to use the win version.

I'm pretty sure it's limited to 15. The thing is that Unix doesn't use past 8 chars anyway. Can you make a second user on the unix machine with the same user id but a shorter name?

I do not have control over the FTP site that I am connecting to.  It may not be a Unix ftp server because the user ID looks like a full email address.  Can FTP-Win be changed?

I don't think it's going to be changed at this point, we are trying to get people to transition to ftp pro. I'll check however.

Thanks for checking.  I guess that I like the Win version because it is easy to see both sides of the transfer.  Maybe I do not know how to use the Pro version well enough to make it easy to visually 'put' and 'get' files without having to remember which side I'm on.  I probably need to try to use the Pro version some more.
