Title: Permissions to J_River folder
Post by: kevinli on July 29, 2004, 11:09:31 pm
We are using the latest version of Telnet pro on Windows XP Pro machines. These are clean installs on newly built machines. TP is installed under the administrator login and all users have full admin rights on the local machine, but on a few of the users machines, the host list does not show up when they open the program and they have to type in the Host name every time. I have tried deleting the registry keys in H_KEY_Local_machine and H_KEY_Current_user, and reinstalled, but still have the same issue. When logged on as the local Administrator (member of domain admins group) , the host list works fine, but when logged on as any other user even if they have admin rights, it does not. I have looked at the J_River folder in Program Files and it's security permissions are such that the Domain admin has full control, but the local Admin account's permissions are greyed out and can't be changed so in effect, all users except for a domain admin can't use the host list. Do you know what the problem might be?

Thanks for the detailed description of the problem. Please remove the J.River folder under the HKEY_CURRENT_USER as the user who cannot get the hosts list to work. Don't reinstall, just run telnetpro again. The HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry entries will be recreated. See if the host list works now.

Let us know what you find.
