Title: semicolon in password for SSN connection

I have someone who has a semicolon at the end of their password.  When they try to connect to a system using SSH, it's not connecting.  Would a semicolon impact them being able to SSH in?

Are they there other users that can get in? If so I'd suspect that is the issue.
If not, what version of ssh is on the server?
