Condensed Printing
« on: November 17, 2004, 03:55:05 pm »

After installing 5.1.25 on a XP Pro machine, I am now able to print to a HP3745 printer using raster printing. Unable to do so before. However, I am unable to print a report in condensed mode. Under previous versions I was able to print condensed on certain printers (HP DJ800 series, HP LJ4000 series, Epson 600, etc.). Should I be able to print condensed now on other printers.  Currently, have only installed new release on one client.

Thanks for the report.

The Raster print driver responds to the standard lineprinter codes for condensed print. If your application sends that code you should get condensed print on your HP3745.

The code for condensed on is 15 dec (0f hex) and
the code for condensed print off is 18 dec (12 hex).

The DJ 800 and LJ 4000 series aren't winprinters so either normal or direct mode should be used for them. If your application is producing PCL codes for condensed print you'll have to switch the printer type to a lineprinter in your application so it will generate the lineprinter codensed print codes instead. Nearly all line printers use the codes above.
