Microsoft Scan causes FTP Voyager Error
« on: April 01, 2009, 10:41:34 am »

Hi,

One of my clients ran Microsoft Scan from the following site:

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm?s_cid=sah

Now, when they attempt to run FTP Pro, they get the following message.

FTP Voyager:
FtpTree ActiveX Control and FTP Pro Version numbers must match.  The version number of both should be: N/A
OK

Telnet Pro Version:  5.1.26

Any idea what's going on?

Thanks,
Mike

Try running TelnetPro and doing Help->Version Information

See if anything is missing. All versions should be the same.

Is it possible that your scanner removed something or inserted something? If ftptree is missing you can copy it from the licenseadmin server into the ICETCP5 folder.

I ran the Help->Version information.

All versions are the same.

I'm not sure how I would know if something is missing.

I have another installation on another PC that works fine.

I think the FtpTree is a component embedded in one of the other executables.  Can you verify this with the programmers?

Can you run the scanner from the link I provided and replicate the problem?

Thanks,
Mike

I ran the full scan on my XP system and it didn't cause a problem.

The ftptree is a embeded component.

What version of windows are you running?

Did they clean the registry after the scan?

Windows XP Professional.

They did not clean the registry.  Were they supposed to?  If so, what tool should they use?

They have Telnet Pro 5.1.26, and I noticed the latest version on your site is 5.1.28.  Should I upgrade them to that version?  Is there a charge for that?

No, I would have thought that cleaning the registry might cause the problem.

There is a charge but you could download the trialware to see if it helps (unlike 5.1.26, it's compiled with .net). You could also have them reinstall from the license server and just cancel out when it gets to the configwizard part.

Something else you might try:
Delete all instances of IsUninst.exe from the Windows directory and retry the install.

When they ran the scan, did they by any chance buy or install the scan program?

I just tried to install the trial version.

It shows the screen with the two big buttons for server and client, but when I click on the client install nothing happens.

Look for copies of isuninst.exe in the windows directory. Delete them if they exist.

Check msconfig -> startup. Look for unusual non-ms stuff.

Something on your system is prevent the installer from running. I wonder if the registry is locked down somehow.

Try re-registering the ftppro.ocx.

Go to Program Files->J. River->Icetcp5
right click on ftppro.ocx
say open with
choose other
browse to windows/system32/regsvr32 and click on it.

You should get a message that the registration succeeded.
