Hi
I'm trying to set up a link within Telnet Pro  that automatically opens up an ftp site within ftppro (version 5.0.67). The problem is how do I pass username and password information to ftppro via the links editor? I keep getting error messages as its trying to login as anonymous? The other way around could be to login to the site using the site profile that is setup with this information stored but I'm not sure how this works using a link.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hmmm, I'm out today but I'll check into it tomorrow. The usual way of getting the username into the picture is to use it in the url, i.e:

ftp://user@ftpsite.company.com

which should prompt for a password.

If I type the following into internet explorer ftp://username:password@ipaddress/path/path/filename I can get at the file within the directory but if I use this as my link within Telnet Pro I get an error message saying "please enter a valid ftp URL". I've tried various things to get around this such as trying to open the link with IE instead of ftppro but it still tries to open with ftppro.
Any help is appreciated.
thanks

I tested this by setting up a link in the macro editor as follows:

I decided to use a pattern that DIDN'T include the username and password on the unix machine for security purposes but did put them into the link edit. So my link edit looks like this:

link pattern:  ftp://name.domain.com
delimiter:             (default)
trailing: .,:;          (default)
launch:  "c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe" ftp://user:pass@name.domain.com
strip: 21  (equal to length on the link pattern)
case: NOT checked.

This works fine. I also tried the same syntax for FtpPro but it doesn't like having the password in the URL (though just having a username is accepted, also with FtpPro you need a trailing slash in the URL).
I'm looking to see if there is a way to do the password in FtpPro but IE should work for you for now.

Looks like FtpPro can only do anonymous connects using the command line.

Hi Bob
Input your settings and success! Thanks.
It didn't seem to work the first time I tried it but then I changed a setting in my Telnet Pro options, I unchecked the box "Start HTML session inside of the program".  I don't suppose there is anyway of using this link with this box checked is there? Only reason I ask is that I have another link that is used by our users and we find it confuses them less if their links open up within the Telnet Pro window as they still think they are using their original program.

If not don't worry about it and thanks again.

Glad it worked for you.. I checked and it works with firefox as well as IE.

It looks like when PRO starts an active X session inside of the container it forces the use of FtpPro. I'm not sure why that would be but it looks like if you want to use an ftp with password you will have to keep that "start  HTML..." option unchecked.
