FTP pro licensing error
« on: July 28, 2009, 06:04:14 am »

Hi I'm having this error on some of the computers.

Ftp control is not licensed correctly.
New sessions can not be created.

This only happens when TelnetPro is also opened, if you open FTP Pro by itself the error would not appear.

I have reinstalled and deleted every file i can find that has to do with iCETCP.

The only thing I have not tried is messing with the registry.

Are you running the same versions of each program (in TelnetPro do help->version info, it will report both TelnetPro and Ftp ocx version information).

What version is it? What version of Windows?

Are the problems with new installations?  What Windows operating systems are the PC's that are having problems?

These are new installations. It is on Windows XP SP3 computers/latops.

This case seems to be rare as we have hundreds of this app running on other PC's without problem.

Some of these installs are from users upgrading to a new system.

Try unblocking the ftppro.exe and telnetpro.exe programs.
In Control Panel -> Windows Firewall -> Exceptions ->Add Program
Browse to ftppro.exe (don't pick it out of the list, maybe you have it installed twice in different places??)

I also have XP SP3 and I can't reproduce this. Do you have a third party firewall on the machines giving you trouble perhaps? If so you could try temporarily disabling it and see if the behavior changes. Any other networking software running in the background??

I can not change firewall exceptions as it is disabled by group policy.

There are 100's of users using this program in different site, this error happens only to 4-5 users so this is rather low but still an major issue.

Sorry, since I can't reproduce this here and you can't change the firewall settings I can only suggest you compare the installed software and settings on two machines, one working and one not. The licensing message could possibly suggest something to do with the udp broadcasts. Maybe you have a firewire port on the machine that doesn't work that needs disabling as an IP interface. Pretty wild guesses.
