Hosts stored *where* exactly??
« on: March 10, 2005, 03:00:19 pm »

Ok,..I have a totally corrupt machine,..I've secured the program files directory, scanned, deloused and filtered the thing. I'm building a new machine but don't want to have to manually re-enter all those hosts (I've got a LOT) so what files can I do the ol swaparoo on to get my hosts over to the other machine?

I've seen a similar question but the answer was "you can't" but I'm guessing there's a file I can either move, or edit to cut n paste all the host info out of, and then back in on my good machine no?

For the Pro client the hosts are stored in the registry.
HKey_Current_User->Software->J.River->ICE.TCP->5.0->Hosts

If you wanted to get everything from before you could export all of
HKey_Current_User->Software->J.River
and import it onto the new machine.

If you can't get at the machine with regedit, the registry entries are in something called the hive which is just a bunch of hidden files somewhere on the machine I believe.
