Force media center 21 to detect SONOS connect
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:14:56 pm »

Hi, i recently bought a sonos connect.
When start up jriver on my windows pc and i restart the SONOS connect, jriver finds the sonos.
The sonos is normally always on, in this case when i start jriver on my windows pc with the sonos already running, jriver does not detect the sonos until i manually shut down the sonos en make him manually restart by plugin out / in the power cable.
I don't think this is the wright way to do things.
How can this be solved?
When i start the sonos app, the app immediately finds the sonos.

Can you download the DMRA tester app from my sig, and see if it can find the Sonos? And if so please post the test log file here.

Thank you for running the test.

Evidently the DMRA had no difficulty discovering the Sonos. So your network and routing would appear to be in order. So frankly I don't know why MC does not discover the Sonos. Did you run the DMRA on the same PC as MC is running on?

Yes of course.

When sonos starts up he announces himself, at that time MC knows he's there and he shows the sonos?
This means that MC does not ask on startup "who's there".

Yes, that's what seems to be happening. I just don't know why.

The Sonos should be making announcements on startup and regularly thereafter (about every 30 minutes maximum). So if you wait up to 30 minutes, does the Sonos finally appear in MC?

Also can you please tell us something about your home network equipment, topology etc., what O/S you are running, and if you have any a/v or firewall software in use...

Hi,

My OS is Windows 10, my a/v and firewall is ESET, the wifi router is a linksys WRT54G.
The SONOS is connected by wire to the linksys WRT54G and the pc is via WIFI connected to the WRT54G

Following are some tips in order to keep UPnP / DLNA bindings as stable as possible..

  • Connect all media devices via wired Ethernet rather than WiFi wherever possible
  • Ensure that all media devices have fixed IP addresses (either via DHCP with DHCP server IP address reservations, or alternatively set Static addresses on each device)
  • Keep all media devices connected to power (use sleep/standby instead of power off)
  • Ensure that your network router supports routing of UDP multicast and UDP unicast datagrams
  • Ensure that your firewall and/or anti- virus software is not blocking any TCP or UDP traffic to/from MC.exe

Connect all media devices via wired Ethernet rather than WiFi wherever possible, OK
Ensure that all media devices have fixed IP addresses (either via DHCP with DHCP server IP address reservations, or alternatively set Static addresses on each device), impossible, with sonos you can not assign a fix ip-adress
Keep all media devices connected to power (use sleep/standby instead of power off)
Ensure that your network router supports routing of UDP multicast and UDP unicast datagrams OK
Ensure that your firewall and/or anti- virus software is not blocking any TCP or UDP traffic to/from MC.exe OK

Just a data point for you. I've got a bunch of Sonos components in the house. They are on all the time and connected by wire. MC is on my laptop and is wireless. All the sonos components show up within seconds of starting MC everytime.

I'm on Windows 10-64 and it worked the same way on Win 7-64.

Then i don't know what's going wrong. Here they only show up when i restart the sonos.
In the windows network they are visible when the pc has started up. In MC they 're not.
My configuration is the sam as yours.
PC on wifi, sonos wired.
Can you help me, i'm also on windows 10 64 bit the pro version?
One more thing, when i startup the nas, he shows up in seconds, only the sonos does not?

I can confirm that this is also the case with my Sonos equipment (several Connects hard wired as well as Play3 and Play5). I am on Windows 7.

I suspected you had a network issue, but obviously couldn't be sure.  What firewall rule did you add or change to make this work?
