Ripped CDs Playing with Echo
« on: September 03, 2003, 09:46:53 am »

Hi,

I've tried to rip two CDs in the last couple of days and then play the files.  The ripped files are playing with about a 1/3 second echo.  Any help?

Aaron ?

Do you have any Environmental Effects enabled in the DSP Studio?

No, and it sounds more like just a double-recording rather than something that would have been produced as an effect.

If you're playing the CD's on a PC, it's possible that two programs are playing it at once.  MC and something else (WMP?).

No other programs show as open.

I don't know if it's related, but when I do try and just play the CD through MC9, it just keeps cycling through highlighting the songs and says "buffering."  It never plays.

Try switching playback from digital to analog.

No luck.  I did get the buffering issue solved by taking random shuffle off of the play mode.

Is there anything in the Copy Mode or the Encoding type that could be making it happen?  I'm using MP3 Encoder and Digital Large Buffer (but have used them in the past with success)?

We need to figure out if it's rip or the playback that's introducing the echo.

If you play the ripped files in another program, are they echoing?  Does it echo if you play straight from the CD?  Is it possible your soundcard has DSP effects enabled somehow?  Try switching to WaveOut in Options > Playback > Output mode.

Let us know.

To rule out an encoding issue, set the output to "uncompressed wave" format and see if you still get the problem. Try playing the resultant file with another player to rule out a DSP playback issue.

Okay, so I ripped it again as an uncompressed wave and it echoes in MC9 and it echoes in Windows Media Player.  So?

I'm also having trouble with the playing of a CD in that I can start the CD, but I can't stop it....my computer freezes and I have to manually turn off the power and reboot.

I'm sorry, but I don't think this is a problem with our software.

Do you have two soundcards enabled?  One on the motherboard?

Check your sound card control panel for enabled DSP effects.  Lots of modern cards have options like echo, reverb, flanger, etc.

Also, do files from the internet (or anywhere else) play with an echo, or just files ripped in MC?  What if you rip with Windows Media Player?

Thanks.

I don't get the echo when listening to ripped cassettes either.  Given that, I wouldn't think it would be the sounds card.

Is there something with the CD player that is causing it?

Try ripping with another app, like windows media player. If you still get the echo, the problem is probably driver or hardware related.
