Using JRiver RoomEQ audio features in MPC-HC
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:49:00 pm »

Hi

I use MediaPortal because I prefer the GUI and features to JRiver.  MediaPortal is set to use MPC-HC with MadVR as an external player for videos.  I'd like to use the RoomEQ audio DSP features of JRiver in MPC-HC.  I'm happy to pay for JRiver, but I don't want to use the actual j-river GUI.

My question is:

Can I use JRiver GUI to setup the dsfilter properties then use MPC-HC to load the external filters?  Is anyone doing this?

Thanks
Mike

My setup in detail:
HTPC: Intel i3-2100 / 12GB RAM / HD7750
Audio Connection: HDMI (PCM)
AVR: Pioneer Elite SC-LX87 9.2 260W AVR
Speakers: Jade 7 Front / Jade 2c Center / Jade 5 Rears.
Sub: iNuke 3000DSP + 4x 15" Sealed JBL GTO1514

Bump.

Can jriver be used as an external player with all the media centre stuff disabled?

JRiver has an audio driver called the WDM driver. You have the option to turn this on in Tools > Options > General > Features. You can set this driver as your default driver in the Windows Control Panel, but you may be able to manually select it in MPC-HC, too.

Your output from MPC-HC will now go to JRiver, through its DSP, and out the the output device selected in JRiver. You can now use JRiver's Room Correction, Parametric EQ, etc with MPC-HC (or any program).

Unless you do separate delays for your subwoofers, you can also do all the DSP from within JRiver for the subwoofer output instead of in the iNuke.

There can be a slight bit of latency when routing the audio signal through JRiver which can cause a lipsync issue. Does MPC-HC have the ability to delay the video like JRiver does?

By the way, can't you use MediaPortal to launch movies directly in JRiver rather than in MPC-HC? Seems like that would be easier.
